Kuroo's pov

As I pulled into an open parking spot, butterflies swirled in my stomach. 'Nervous' couldn't even begin to describe the feeling, it was more 'uncomfortable' and 'exasperated'. Why did a personal investigator need to be placed in a criminal investigation office building, you may be asking? Well, I had been in a close-call accident involving gang violence after the case my partner, Kenma, and I were working on, went south; we got caught snooping around one of their meetings and spying on a few drug transactions, thankfully we got out, but not unscathed. I ended up taking a bullet to the arm but that was a small price to pay considering I was covering Kenma's head.

Sighing, I got out of my car and made my way to the building's entrance, expecting nasty looks from my temporary new coworkers, it was only by chance that one of the sectors' superintendents retired about a week ago, so that was why I got booted to the top of the food chain so fast. I knew I was early, but somehow, I was still surprised to see the office practically empty.

After greeting the few of my new employees that had arrived, and asking for directions to my office, I opened the door and entered a small room with off-white walls, the concrete floor was mostly covered by a warm red rug and two matching desk stood on opposite sides of the room, finally, a large window between the tables provided most of light in the room. I wandered over to the larger desk of the two, assuming it was mine because it looked like someone had recently cleared it off, since the only thing on it was a note addressed to me. I scanned through the words, learning that none of the people working here knew that I wasn't really meant for this job, though I should keep it that way, considering the whole point of me coming here was that I would be the one to promote somebody to superintendent after I leave.

I read along the lines, mostly unbothered by the basics of 'how to do my job', but stopped once my interest spiked up.

"Bla...bla.....bla....Kuroo Tetsurou, you'll also be working alongside the office supervisor, Tsukishima Kei. you'll share an office-" I was hoping to get some extra working space out of that second desk but apparently not, "so it may be preferable to inform them of your situation, so that any questions you may have will be answered proficiently."

Oh. Well, I wasn't really planning on telling anyone about the private investigator thing but apparently I should trust this 'Tsukishima' person with my secret... We'll see about that. I decided to look around the other desk to find out a little bit more about my supervisor, the tabletop was organised and clean. With all the pencils neatly in their holder, and papers perfectly stacked in a shelving unit, it looked like a boring old man's desk until I spotted a picture of two blond boys, one tall and lanky, he wore an easy smile and his arm wrapped around a smaller boy this one much younger than the prior teenager, his thick rectangular glasses rested low on the bridge of his nose and in his hands he held a volleyball. I smiled, not because of the picture, or the cute little boy, not even because of the volleyball; I smiled at the tiny dinosaur stickers all over the frame.

After about ten minutes, I stumbled upon the files for MY case, well, Kenma's too but, either way, I immediately ransacked it, searching everything for any missed details that would be useful for my partner, who was working alone for the time being. I got lost in the pages, and soon enough the room kinda looked like a tornado had blown through it, especially after the sudden knock at the door that made me jump and accidentally launch the dozen or so photos in my hand straight up into the air.

Only cracking the door open enough to poke my head through, a small gasp drew my attention downwards, to where a small woman was now standing, shocked by my height. I'd grown since high school and now stood at 6'4, she composed herself and put on a nervous smile, but her blush was very noticeable.

"Excuse me, my name is Ichika Niko, and I, well, we-" she stammered gesturing towards a bunch of other people standing around the area, now looking less like a dreary office and more like a welcoming party, "Were wondering if you'd join our little gathering and introduce yourself?" a different smile now played on her lips as her confidence grew, this one more flirtatious and alluring, it was almost smirk like.

That smile plastered itself on every female, and even some male faces, soon enough I was swarmed by the employees, mostly girls, introducing themselves and asking a million questions. Unsurprisingly, many asked if I was single, and my gay ass obviously answered 'yes' without thinking. Immediately the flirting amplified, making me smirk, I playfully winked at a few of them trying my best not to laugh at the irony; every guy in the room had gone back, sulkily, to their desks, envious of my popularity with the ladies, and my flirtatious attitude probably didn't help, but being gay sure would.

A blond head of short hair suddenly caught my eye, I couldn't see his face but he stood out quite literally thanks to his slightly-shorter-than-me height. He mumbled something unintelligible but then the woman next to him gave him a murderous glare as he walked to my office. So he's the supervisor, huh? Before I could ask the woman what he said, I was distracted by yet another hand squeezing my bicep, it's owner asked about my bandaged arm and I silently reminded myself to buy bigger shirts so that it fit in my sleeve more. The lie I made up about my forearm was easily believable, I mean who doesn't trip and fall down the stairs every so often? That's why no further questions were asked about it.

Eventually I instructed everyone to start actually working for the day and headed to my office to greet the blond boy who I saw earlier. I opened the door, remembering the folders I went through, and stared at the spotless floor, annoyance building up inside me and my organised chaos was disrupted. He set the folder down on my desk and stepped away from it as I looked him over, shoes quietly moved along the rug and I watched the dark wash jeans he wore stretch along his backside as he made his way around the desk. Before getting caught staring at his ass, I moved my gaze to his dark maroon crew neck, it fit him nicely and the white collar poking out from underneath made the outfit more sophisticated. His angular, slender face was more or less built to look sexy in glasses, the way they sat on the bridge of his nose made me realise he was the young boy in the picture on his desk. But my anger bubbled more as I remembered that he completely ruined my messy set up.

"What the hell are you doing?" My voice came out a little sharper than I intended as I nodded towards my files.

"It's barely 8 AM, how is it this office already looks like a pigs stein?" He demanded, but without accusation, actually his question lacked any emotion at all, and his monotone voice came out soothingly almost, he simply asked the question as if it wasn't rude even in the slightest.

I was baffled by his lack of interest in getting a good first impression with his boss, doesn't this guy know I could fire him? He didn't seem to care about my superiority, and for some reason, I kind of respected him for that, which baffled me even more, so much so I couldn't even respond till he insulted the welcoming party, calling it an "obnoxiously loud, unnecessary delay that looked like a child's birthday party on a budget," and at that, I burst out laughing. This guy was more blunt than a baseball bat, and that, paired with his sarcastic stance, was sorta hilarious.

"Kuroo Tetsurou, and you are?" I asked, extending my hand, even though I knew his name.

"Tsukishima Kei." his smooth voice replied and without shaking my hand, he walked to and sat at his desk opening his laptop, leaving me standing awkwardly with my hand outstretched to no one in particular. "I reorganised the 'Growlers gang' folder you were looking at, you made it practically impossible for me to reach my desk... It's the only interesting case we ever got to look into so I wasn't surprised to see you took a liking." he stated and I grinned at him.

"Thanks for destroying my organised chaos."

"That wasn't organised chaos, it was just plain chaos." he deadpanned. First impression was that this indifferent smart ass was a lot more fun to look at then to talk to, but I assumed he was feeling the same.
