So I know I said I would try not to publish anything with Anthony until this whole drama was cleared up, but I wrote and edited this chapter before any of the drama came out, and I don't want to just leave it in my drafts for a while ya know? I'm also not sure if I'm going to continue this because of what has happened. Yes, I do believe that people can change, and that cancel culture is awful, but I also believe people should be held accountable when they do something wrong. (I'm still not sure if the screenshots and things are real, and I know that Anthony said it was fake, but I still don't know what to think)
Also thanks for all the support ❤
Anthony pushed himself up, exiting "Bryce's" arms so that he was now standing straight.
"I guess we should introduce ourselves," the brunette boy on the top bunk stated, jumping down from the top and swiftly landing on the ground. He motioned for the others to follow suit as he sluggishly made his way towards the boy. Bryce guided Anthony down so he was sitting on the cold tile floor, of course, the floor was dirty, chipped, and cold, but it felt awkward to gather on one person's bed.
"So I guess we'll go around and say our name, and why we're here," the boy with tattoos stated. Anthony couldn't help but feel intimidated. Almost all the boys seemed scary, what if his new roommates were literally murders? He thought that going to a mental hospital would be bad, but he didn't expect it to be this outrageously scary and horrific. It was apparent that whatever his parents had heard about this place was a fat string of lies, and he wasn't able to tell them that. Since they took his phone, he wasn't allowed to send letters, and visitation was impossible, they would never know how awful it was.
"I'm Jaden, 18, been here for 6 months, parents sent me here to "help" with my anger, depression, suicidal thoughts, and substance abuse," he said, making air quotes at the word help. He motioned for the boy next to him to begin and tell his story. The boy had brown hair and was the one sitting with Jaden. The two seemed close, which made it all the more intimidating. If they were close, that might mean that they'd exclude him, that would make his stay worse.
"My names Josh, I'm also 18, I've been here for 8 months, I'm here because of my anxiety disorder, suicidal thoughts, and trouble with drug abuse," Josh said quietly, shrugging his shoulders as if it were nothing. But 8 months, that was a long time, and Anthony couldn't even imagine being cooped up in this room for longer than a week!
"I'm Griffin, 20 years old and I've been trapped here for a year and a half. I got sent here against my will because of my OCD, and Depression," Griffin shrugged as if it was nothing. As if 18 months was nothing, it was incredibly hard to understand how someone could have such a positive mindset while in this little shit hole of a place.
"What up, I'm Bryce, 20 years old, been here for 2 years. I'm bipolar, anger issues, and I was depressed the first year I came here," Bryce explained calmly. Anthony was in shock, how could he survive here for two years. And the fact that all of the other roommates were here for a shorter amount of time, meant he had to watch all his old roommates leave and move on with their lives.
"Kio, I-I'm 17, it's been 4 months since I got here. My grandma s-sent me here because of my social anxiety, disordered eating, and I tried to k-kill myself once," Kio stuttered out, his face turning red as he did so. He was nervous, he had already had to adjust to 5 other roommates, and now he had a new one.
"I'm Quinton, 17, I've been here for 7 months and I have suicidal thoughts, struggle with substance shit, and my parents think I lack empathy," Quinton said. The attention was now fixed on Anthony, being the strange, new kid, made them curious. And their glances made Anthony want to curl in on himself and shut down.
"A-Anthony, 17. I-I, I'm here because of my e-eating disorder, self-harm, a-anxiety, and d-depression," he shuddered the words as if he was held at gunpoint. Anthony was anxious, this place seemed more like a prison than any sort of mental institution that was lawfully run. The shitty cold tile floor, the painted white brick walls, both of which resembled that of a school. The lights were tinted yellow, and it seemed like the room they all had to stay in was made for 2-4 people.
"You don't got to be nervous," Bryce smiled, watching as Anthony looked up at him, his eyes wide and glossy with tears yet to be shed.
"Let's get your shit situated," Jaden stated, grabbing the empty storage bin that Anthony had been given. They knew the "nurse" would be here soon to collect the clothes Anthony had arrived in. As a resident, you were expected to wear the gray sweatpants and sweater they had given you. Jaden slid the bin beneath Quinton's bottom bunk since Anthony would be sleeping on the top. But before he did, he grabbed the clothes and set them on the neatly made bed.
"Get changed," Jaden said while handing him the clothes, eying up the pair of jeans and loose t-shirt he was clad in. Anthony searched around the room, no seeing anywhere private to change.
"Yeah, the bathroom is locked. We're all guys here, just change," Griffin shrugged, motioning for Anthony to strip from his normal clothes and into the oversized sweats. He swallowed hard, almost afraid to take off his clothes. He knew what would happen, they would see his skinny frame, the ribs that were a bit too prominent, and his legs that were thin as all living hell, hey would gawk at the sight of him.
"O-ok," Anthony mumbled, slowly slipping off his shirt, nearly doubling over in an attempt to hide his "too thin" frame. He let the white shirt hit the floor and put on the sweater, sighing at the relief of having something covering his body. He repeated the same with the pants, dropping his jeans to the floor.
"The bed above Quinton is yours, there's no ladder, so one of us is going to have to help you get up," Josh said shyly, smiling at him as he made his way towards Jaden's bed.
There was a sudden knock on the door, which sent the boys scrambling onto their beds, climbing up the rust old rusty ladders to get there. Anthony stood confused, watching as the boys dropped anything on their beds into the storage bin.
"Dude, you have to get up," Griffin muttered, grabbing him by the waist and lifting him up onto his bunk bed, slightly afraid of how light he was. Afterward, Griffin ran over to his bed, just in time for the door to be open.

I'm also going to clarify, this isn't what normal mental hospitals are like, this is an exaggerated and corrupt version that's been modified for the purpose of this fanfiction. I feel like clarifying that, just in case you or someone you know goes to a mental hospital, this isn't what it's actually like 😊
