I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it - Sherrilyn Kenyon
You took big spoonfuls of cereal and chewed slowly while thinking about the "FT challenge" that you signed up for as a part of your school project. The project is to spend 5 days a week with a mental patient in a house together for 3 weeks and gather as much information on them as possible. Around 150 other students from your school also signed up for it because of the fact that you get to skip 4 schools days a week from participating and get to keep the house on your own when the challenge is over. It doesn't seem very real though, staying in a house with someone who has a mental illness just to study them? 2031 really is a messed up year. The thing about it is that the mental illnesses they have aren't common things like autism, ADHD and OCD, they're rare conditions instead.
Today is the day that you get to meet the patient but since patient is an un-welcoming word they've been referring to him as your "Roommate." All you know is that he's 17 just like you but a male. You have no idea what his disorder is and no idea what his name is nor what he looks like. They said that you'll be sleeping in a bed in a cozy little loft area while the patient- Roommate has to be locked into his bedroom downstairs at night. During Sunday and Monday they go back to the ward that they are currently in while you get to stay in the house for those two days. Of course, you have the freedom to leave the house alone whereas they don't. The "Roommate" can only leave the house with you.
In around roughly 2 hours you'll be at the house. The house isn't a surprise to you seeing as you've already been there to put your clothes in your wardrobe but that's all since it already comes with toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, food and all of the other necessary things. All you really need to bring is your skincare routine and a first aid kit just incase. Around an hour after you arrive the patient will arrive with a nurse to inform you of anything you should be wary of when living with this guy and things they want you to look out for.
2 hours and 50 minutes later
You sat on your new bed while playing games on your phone. As every minute went past you started to panic and get what if thoughts with reasonable things such as "What if he's completely loco" or "What if he's scary" and even crazy things that 100% aren't going to happen like "What happens if the guy can't have a poo on his own" After pondering on it and realising how weird it was you began to laugh at your own thoughts. Knock knock
That must've been them, the roommate and the nurse.
Instead of wasting time sitting there in shock you hurriedly scrambled down the ladder and to the front door. Before opening it you took a big deep breath and prepared yourself for everything. Your hand grasped the door handle tightly and you began to pull it open as slowly as possible. When the door was fully open you felt a wave of relief, the boy isn't there, just the nurse.
"Good morning Miss Y/L/N." The nurse spoke in a calm voice. "Thank you for signing up for the FT challenge. We hope you'll make great progress with your new roommate. You're rather lucky, compared to the other contestants you've got a pretty easy roommate." she giggled at her own words and continued "Something to note about him is that he's madly shy. It'll take a while for him to warm up to you but I can assure you that when he does he won't want to let go of you. I know what you might be thinking right now and don't worry, you can quit at any time. During the last 3 days we have a plan set up for slowly bringing him away from you and back into the ward. We need you to study his behaviours and write down anything that seemingly puts him into any sort of emotions, any weird reactions and unusual things he says and thinks about often."
