Being an intern meant being on the sidelines while watching the "professionals" make tough decisions in the field, be told what you can and can't do. It's to learn and stay away from danger, which means filing records from cases dating back to the years before. One by one putting them in filing cabinets while looking for numbers that match the file. As much as you do, no one knows your name. They don't even know who you are.
Interns are supposed to last for a year and leave. Victoria did the opposite, she stayed for her Master's degree, knowing something good would come out of it, while the other interns quit in the middle of it. She had been an intern for 2 years, which helped her be more comfortable around adults. It became her everyday routine to go to the police department. To help, to just learn. Throughout the second year, it was different, before she realized what she was getting herself into.

Victoria:
Rainy mornings always feel relaxing, a warm coffee, and a blanket is all you need. Then comes the noisy neighbors arguing in the apartment above me. Thank you for ruining my peace. Sigh...
Looking out my window I see a little boy and his parents walking down the sidewalk. He looks.... Happy.
It's been 5 years since I lost my parents to a psychopath who murdered them when I was 16. I decided to go to a sleepover at my best friend's house that night. What if I was home that night? Would they still be alive?
Kailyn's mom drove me back home in the morning to find the police surrounding my home. I remember the time. 8:47 am. We had gotten out and an officer asked me who I was. "Victoria Hays" was all that I could say.
The utter shock and confusion of what was going on hadn't set in yet. What was even worse was an officer telling me to not go inside. I ran, all I could do was run inside to look for my parents.
Someone grabbed ahold of me and nodded. He tried to tell me something but I couldn't understand. My ears were ringing. Two stretchers with white sheets came out of the living room. No-no-no. It can't be. They were just fine when I saw them.
The officer was still holding me. His hands held me in place by my shoulders because he knew... he knew I'd run. He looked to be in his mid-40s at the time. At that moment he had said "Victoria, my name is Corporal Aims. Everything is going to be alright. I know this is hard to understand but we can go to the station and talk." There it was. The place where it all started.
I finally get out of my thoughts and look at the time. It's getting late, I need to be at the department by 10. I decide on black joggers, a black long sleeve crop, and a high ponytail. Can't forget my coffee on my way out. It's pumpkin spice season!
Today was another day of training. Every month there is a lineup of department interns that are tested on their agility and defense tactics. I've been doing this for a long time so it's nothing compared to the newbies joining. In my thoughts, I reach the 3rd floor before anyone else has arrived.
I drop my things and start stretching. I hear the other two interns come in. I don't talk to them much so it wasn't odd for them to not greet me. They personally didn't even try. I was the "weird" girl that kept to herself. Then I hear the elevator ding. Instead of my instructor being alone, two other officers accompanied him.
They were both tall, broad, and dark-haired. One had dimples, green eyes, and a tattoo covering his arm. While the other had brown eyes and wore a silver bracelet. I was more interested in Officer green eyes because of our past encounters. The encounters weren't big, just at fundraisers events. He wouldn't even know my name even if he guessed.
