It was snowing quite a bit, so when Bradley stood outside with his family waiting for Elliot, his biological father, to open up the door he wasn't just annoyed and fed up with his mom forcing him to spend the weekend with the man that he could barely associate as family, but he was also freezing his ass off. When his father opens the door he greets them, telling them to come in.
"What did you do to yourself?" Karen, the boys mother and former wife of Elliot Baker asked him as she sees that he has a cast around his hand. She could only hope that it was not caused by violence but with his history of drinking and immature behavior, it was not likely.
"Ah this ain't nothing. A guy took his whole arm off a couple of months back" he said with a smirk nudging his youngest son Caleb.
"Cool!" the young boy exclaimed looking up to his dad with an impressed look.
"No, its not" Karen cut him off giving him a warning look. She wasn't too fond of the idea to let her kids stay with their father but she had no choice since the terms of the divorce stated that their children will have to keep in touch with their father, and since they'll be moving to England soon, she thought that itd be best that they get some time now before they leave. Of course, Elliot didn't know this and that was exactly the way she wanted it to be as she knew for a fact that he would blow a fuse and make things more complicated than they have to be. She planned to tell him after the weekend.
Elliot moved back to let the family come in and looked at Karen "Ah its not bad, I'm getting it off in a week and it'll be as good as new" trying to calm and assure the woman and it seemed to work as she dropped the subject and walks around the house looking at things. "Woah, you tryna break my other one?" the man questions Caleb as they shake hands in the hallway.
"Ted says that a firm handshake shows character" he responds unsurely but with a slight smile on his face looking back at his stepdad in confirmation to which the man, Ted, smiles and nods at the boy.
"Ohh so that was my problem all along huh? How is this? How's this huh?" Elliot joked and pulled him into a little wrestle then into a hug from the back as they walk further into the house. Bradley, the eldest son, looked at the two with a slight frown on his face not liking the fact that his brother is in his father's embrace. Bradley has never liked his father and probably never will. He saw through his fake fun behavior and only recognizes him as a failure of a man which is why he is more annoyed than anything to spend time with this man for two days.
"I love what you've done with the place" Karen says looking back at Elliot with raised eyebrows. The last time she was here was a couple of years ago to drop the kids off and he had actually invited her in for a minute.
"Yeah, yeah, feng shui over there and motifs over there" he stammered out as Karen looked him dead in the eye going around him to stand next to her husband Ted.
"Hm maybe you should be a decorator" she jokes. His response was a small smile looking down and Ted decided to join into the conversation after that
"You know Elliot, I can talk to my guys down at the warehouse and see if they could use a hand if you're interested" he said leaning against the wall by the hallway with his arms crossed looking straight at him. His wife looking back at Elliot wondering what his answer would be but the mans face just dropped and frowned as he took his suggestion as an insult more than a helping hand. He declined and thanked him anyway.
Bradley looked at the two men during their interaction and his frustration just grew with Elliot as he declined an opportunity to work in a good job. He didn't understand why he declined as he didn't have a job and he obviously needed money. He just shook his head trying to dismiss it as he already knew what a failure this man is. He just wished this weekend would be over soon. As his mother told him to say goodbye and hug her, he thought of all the things that could go wrong during these two days, but never did he expect what would actually happen.
