The Arena was alive with cheers and the sound of clinking wine goblets. The majority of gods and honored guests had already arrived. They were either standing around talking or had already taken their seats. Proserpina stood at the center of the ring. Her blood pumped wildly in anticipation. She was ready.
"Well, look at you." Diana caught her attention as she approached. "You look fierce and strong." She touched Proserpina on the shoulder, lowering her voice so only they could hear. "And gorgeous."
Proserpina laughed, wholeheartedly. "I'll do you proud."
"You already have." Diana's approval meant the world to Proserpina. "Now, you win this fight, or you're going to be throwing twelve thousand spears when this is done."
Proserpina wasn't worried. "I'll win." She smiled. "I'm the daughter of the war god after all."
Diana chuckled. "Proud are we? Don't let all that confidence go to your head against this opponent."
"What do you know about this Bacchus?" Proserpina asked.
"I know he's good with a spear, but so is someone else we know." Diana winked.
Proserpina smiled. This mysterious opponent had piqued her interest.
"Ah, Proserpina." She turned around to be enveloped into Queen Juno's embrace. "How are you my darling?"
"I'm very well, thank you." Proserpina smiled.
"I am so very excited to see you fight. I know you'll give us one heck of a show." Juno smiled.
"Juno!" Jupiter called to his wife.
She turned to look at him and nodded her head once. "Looks like I need to take my seat." She placed a kiss on Proserpina's forehead before walking away.
Everyone was here except for one. The God of the Underworld. She couldn't keep her mind from wondering.
"Are you ready?" Her father wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
Proserpina leaned into him, "I am."
"Good, cause they're here." He pointed towards the entrance.
Proserpina drew in a sharp breath. The God of the Underworld. He was so pale and in contrast with his jet black hair he looked almost dead himself. Upon his head sat a crown. A crown made of human ribs. The thorns protruding out of the top were made of human spines, sharpened by a skilled crafter. His eyes were on her. They were as dark as night, even the whites of his eyes were darkened by his days spent in the realm of the dead. Proserpina couldn't look away.
The pale god smirked, noticing her gaping at him. Embarrassed Proserpina wanted to look away but when he stepped aside that's when she saw him. Her opponent, Bacchus.
Proserpina's eyes widened. She'd never seen someone so huge. He was twice her size and his sword as long as she was tall. She smirked, thrilled for the challenge. 'This is going to be a good fight.'
Bacchus trotted up the steps to the center of the ring. He approached Proserpina but stopped a few feet away. Diana stepped between them. She was the officiating this contest. Proserpina looked around her, finding all the guests had taken their seats. She looked to her father, who smiled her way. He was just as excited about this fight as she was.
"Welcome!" Mars's voice boomed. "As you know today is a day to celebrate. For I take my daughter Proserpina as my new titan!"
The crowd cheered wildly, only bosting Proserpina's confidence.
