We spent days and days looking for a cure. The pack split up and had half do some research on possible supernatural beings that had healing powers. I'm reality it was a long shot.

The other half took upon themselves to look for an actual cure. It was honestly another long shot. There was no clue, no anything. I tried to keep myself positive and optimistic. Malia was a different case.
She began to act differently. She wasn't the same motivated and energetic girl anymore. They way she talked was also changing.

She felt it and I felt it as well, the possibility of her passing. I couldn't even bear to think of that happening.

I hated the fact that she was going through so much main and that I couldn't do anything about it. I hated feeling so useless and powerless.

The pack had gotten a clue yesterday of a supernatural creature that possessed healing powers, but according to the book they had gone extinct after they were hunted by people as people thought they were heretics. Besides yesterday there was nothing.

I barely left the hospital. For various reasons to be honest. I wanted to be by Malia's side the whole time. Another reason is I am too tired and stressed to think clearly so I would just end up getting in the way for the pack. Lastly, I was afraid that if I were to leave at any moment, Malia would die and I wouldn't get a chance to say goodbye.

At night the pack had come to visit. They also wanted to check in about the research they had been doing.
As not everyone was allowed in at once, Lydia and Scott decided to come inside, leaving the pack outside.

I hug them and then head into Malia's room. They don't say much. But Malia is awaken by the sound.
"Hey guys" Malia greets them.
Lydia and Scott hug her.
"Just came to check up on you, how are you feeling?" Lydia questions Malia.
We all knew the answer but it was a just a formality Lydia liked to keep.
" Well you know I'm feeling the same." Malia answers.

She always answered with that, but I always wondered if she was really the same or was she getting worse each day.

Scott motioned for me to go outside, he wanted to talk to me.

We left the room leaving Lydia and Malia to talk.

"We found nothing, we won't give up, but I think we should be prepared for if worse gets to come." Scott says sadly.

"How could I prepare for such a thing?" I question him. I couldn't even imagine what I would do.

"We'll be there for both of you, through all of it." Scott reassures me with a hug.

We head back in to see Lydia and Malia hugging. They say goodbye and Scott hugs her as well before they leave the room.

Now it's just the two of us. I sit next to Malia and hold her hand.

"I'm so tired." Malia sighs. She looks weak.

"I know. I know, but we're working on finding a cure. Just hold on for a couple of days." I say as a tear flows down my face.

" I know you guys are trying, but I just can't take the pain. I'm done fighting it." Malia cries.

"What do you mean?" I ask. What was she trying to say by that.

"I've fought for you, I know you are going through hell so I have been fighting my pain. I've pushed it down trying to appear as if it's hasn't gotten worse, but it was." Malia explains as she holds my hand tighter.

Her face says it all, she is filled with pain, physically and emotionally.

"I have to let go now," Malia states.

"No. No! We can find a cure. You'll get better and we'll live together until we're old. You can't give up now." I say trying to say everything I have wanted to say before. I wanted to grow old with her.

" As much as I would love that, I don't know how much more I can handle and the cure seems to be months away." Malia explains with tears flowing down her face.

At that moment I felt guilty. I felt selfish. Malia was going through so much pain, unimaginable pain that she pushed down so that I wouldn't worry. I wanted her to live but, if we didn't find a cure tomorrow, I would be pushing her into more suffering. I grew so co fused by this. I didn't want her to die but the most selfless thing to do would be to comfort her and let her chose. She needed her pain to stop and the only thing that would cover her that is death.

"I love you, and anything you chose to do I will be with you right by your side." I say.

Her eyes look so relived and thankful.

"I think it's time, could you bring everyone into the room? I would like to say goodbye." Malia asks me. I call everyone letting them know what is going on.

I could think straight. I felt like I was giving up on her but if I told her to keep fighting and there is no cure, I would only impose more days of pain on Malia. There was no right answer.

Everyone arrives quite quickly. The room soon gets tight with everyone surrounding her.

Each person gets a turn to say good bye. I couldn't believe what was going on.

Everyone had tears flowing down their faces.

At last I went back to Malia's side and held on to her hand. I hugged her tightly and whispered into her ear everything that I never said before.

"I will always love you and remember to be happy, you deserve it." Malia whispers right before her heart stopped beating.
The sound of the EKG machine flatlining rung through the room. At that moment I lost it I started weeping.

I run out of the room and Scott follows after me.

" Hey look at me and talk to me." Scott says trying to prevent a panic attack.

"It's just that I feel selfish. I wanted her to keep living but it meant suffering for her. But the end of her suffering means a life time of suffering for me. I just wanted to grow old with her. That all I ever wanted, but now she is gone," I cry out.

" I know you are suffering,  but remember that she would always want whats best for you. That's all she wanted. So remember her, always and honor her. Live the best life can live." Scott tries to comfort me.

He was right. Malia was in peace now and I could only think of that. She wasn't in pain anymore, she was so tired at the end. Now she was free, but I was captive. Lost in the memories of all the happy moments we had lived together. Wishing to turn back time. Yet I could only move forwards and just hope to see her again once my time comes to an end.
