CHAPTER 15: I DRINK TEA WITH MY PRINCIPAL

Lexie slammed her tray on the table, making me snap out of my daydreams of pepperoni pizza. It had been five minutes since our lunch period started. Jasmine was absent again.

I was starting to wonder if she was the one who was in a gang.

I looked over her tray when she sat on the chair, scooting it closer to the table. I looked up at her and pouted. "No fries today?"

"Well, if you want your fries, get it yourself." She snapped at me.

"Did I do something wrong?" I asked, calmly but inside my brain was in full panic mode. I couldn't remember what I did wrong.

"No, you didn't." she sighed. "I am sorry for snapping at you."

"It's fine." I waved it off, feeling relieved that it wasn't my blood she was going after. "What's wrong?"

"Well, guess what?" she said and then stabbed into her pasta, making me flinch.

I looked at her, hoping she would elaborate. Her blue eyes stared right into mine and only then I noticed that she had dark circles under her eyes that her concealer had not managed to, well, conceal.

But my mind and mouth didn't want to cooperate, because instead of 'What's wrong, tell me.' pure stupidity came out.

"You want me to guess?" I asked. "So did someone die?"

Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!

She looked at me, her expressions being ha-ha, you think you're so funny. "I'll tell."

I nodded, not trusting my mouth this time.

"You remember Lucas, right?" she said.

I nodded again. Her first love.

"Yeah, well he called me yesterday. And I was so excited because our entire relationship is text based, you know." She said, waving her arms so much that a pasta from her fork flew off in the air.

She didn't care.

"So I picked up the call and tried to not sound so crazy and he invited me to have lunch with him. Obviously I was shocked but I said yes, because who in their right minds would say no?" she explained. "And I thought it was a date. So me being me, also known as stupid, dressed up and went to meet him. And then I find out that he has a girl with him. A girl. He wanted me to meet his girlfriend. God I am so fucking dumb."

I looked at her sadly, and placed one hand on her which wasn't trying to destroy the existence of pasta. She looked at me. "You're not dumb. You are just in love."

"Isn't that the same thing?" she asked, her voice cracking as I retreated my hand. "I wanted to hate her, but she was so sweet to me. and she also likes The Beatles. Now, how can I hate her?"

"Maybe you can't. I think you got to move on." I said and realised how much of bullshit that was. "Hey, you know what? Let's have a girl night today."

It was a Friday night, and officially the last day before our winter break. I didn't even realise so much time had passed.

She considered it. "Will you have those jellies?"

I nodded. "If you don't mind, I'll call Luke too. He's an expert on these things. We can have a movie night and stuff our faces with jellies and ice cream."

She sniffled. "Yeah, sounds good. I'm in."

I smiled encouragingly. "Great. Now eat your food, because no guy is worth wasting food."
