---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“It’s alright, we will be together soon, Casey. I will take us away from here. We will go into the woods and live a long, happy life together.”

“I would never want to live with you. You have done nothing but make my life worse.”

“You shouldn’t have said that, Casey. You are so stubborn. You are going to have to learn to listen to me. If you don’t there will be consequences.” Casey tried to think of a way to escape, ignoring what he said. Casey did the only thing she could think of, since she didn’t have any weapons. She slapped him, hard across the face. While he was holding his cheek in pain. Casey took this as a chance to run. She almost made it out the door when he grabbed onto her arm and jerked her back she hit the side of the wall, the back of her head taking the blow. She could feel the blood coming out.

“I never loved you and I never will.” Casey said, but she regretted it afterwards.

“You are not the one. I thought you were the one who might complete my life, fill the empty gap. I’m sorry, Casey, but I must kill you like I killed the rest.”

“T-the r-rest? W-what do you m-mean?”

“There were others, Casey. Other girls. They said they loved me, but they only said those things to try and make me gain theirtrust, then they would try to escape. I have so much love, but no one to give it to. No one understands. Why don’t you love me?”

“Because you are crazy and a total creep, no one will ever love you.” Casey covered her mouth. She didn’t mean to say that. It accidentally slipped out. Casey could see Rick’s face turning redder and redder.

“You. Are. Not. The. One.” Rick stated through clenched teeth.

“I-I’m sorry. I d-didn’t m-mean-”

“Shut up!” I can’t believe you did this to me! I gave you so much love! You betrayed me!”

Casey was about to respond, but she had no time to as Rick’s hands closed around herneck. He was squeezing her neck, very hard, suffocating her. She tried to take his hands off her, but his grip was too strong. She could feel herself losing consciousness. She reached out, looking for anything to use to get his hands off her. She reached her hands up and felt something in Rick’s pocket. She knew she didn’t have much time before she would die. She felt a knife. She slipped the knife out of Rick’s pocket, not wanting to waste any time. She took the knife with both hands and stabbed his fingers that were clenched around Casey’s neck. Rick screamed in agony. Casey watched as his fingers kept bleeding. Casey knew her head was bleeding, but not that bad. She could get help later.

Rick tried to crawl over to Casey and tried to strangle her again. She stabbed him again with the knife, this time in his side. He screamed again, doubling over on the ground.

“I’m sorry, Rick.” She whispered. She saw him trying to come after her again and Casey knew what she had to do. She stabbed him for the last time, it made contact with his chest. Casey watched as Rick’s eyes drained of all life and she watched as he died and his eyes turned lifeless and cold. His skin turned pale and he lay there, on the ground. Dead. Casey pulled the knife out of his chest and stood up.

She dropped the knife on the ground, not caring that she had blood all over her. I just killed someone. He’s dead. I will never see him again. This had to be done, right? He might’ve killed me if I didn’t kill him first. Casey could hear sirens that were getting louder and louder. She heard the door being busted open downstairs and she heard the footsteps of the police coming up the stairs. Casey was sitting on the floor next to Rick’s lifeless body, her body shaking with sobs. The police came in and saw her on the ground and the bloody knife on the floor next to Rick.

“Are you alright? Come on let’s get you outside. It’s all okay now. No one is going to hurt you. You’re safe now.” Chief Victor said. Casey nodded, tears still streaming down her face, but she followed him outside and sat on the back of the ambulance so the paramedic could clean her up.

Casey answered all the questions that the police asked her. She watched as they dragged Rick’s cold, pale body out of the house. All she could do was sit there and stare. A couple minutes later Casey’s mom, dad, Luke and Jules showed up asking if she was okay.

“I’m fine, just a little traumatized, that’s all. I can’t believe I did that. Wait... How did the police get here? I didn’t call them.”

“I know, dear. We called them. Do you remember how we told you that everyday after school you were supposed to text us or call us so we could make sure you were okay? Well, you never said anything so we got worried. We are just glad you are okay now, you’re safe.”

“Thanks mom. I love you guys.”

“We love you, too. Oh... I almost forgot, I think there are some people here to see you.”

Casey’s mom and dad stepped out of the way to show Luke and Jules. They both asked if she was okay and they pulled her into a hug.

“I’m fine. Thanks so much guys for coming here. I can’t believe I did that.”

“It’s okay Casey. We know you had no choice. The important thing is that you’re okay now.” Luke said.

“Yeah. We wouldn’t want to lose you,” Jules said truthfully, “You’re our best friend.”

“Thanks guys. You’re both awesome.”

“You got that right!” They both said at the same time. Casey laughed. She was glad all of this was over. She had no choice, it had to be either him or her, plus Casey didn’t want this to happen to anybody else like it happened to her. Even though Rick tried to kill her, she still felt kind of bad for killing him, but she knew it had to be done.

The next few weeks were great for Casey. Her friends were so supportive and tried to help her and check up on her every now and then to make sure she was okay. Casey’s bond with her parents was as strong as ever. Casey also confessed to Jules about how she had always had a small crush on Luke. In the end, Casey got together with Luke and she lived a normal teenage life. Even though there were many bumps in the road, she knew that she would never forget what happened, but she knew she had her parents and her friends to count on for support.
