Clay blinked lazily, yawning. "Five, more minutes," he groaned, rolling over, to be met with a fish staring straight into his eyes.

"whAT THE-" he scrambled backwards, fully awake from the shock. Clay watched as the fish calmly swam off to the side, going through a doorway. He shook his head, only now just feeling the resistance from the 'air' around him.

Wait... If he was under water... how could he breathe?!

Clay took a deep breath just to make sure he wasn't drowning. Trying to not freak out, Clay succeeded in convincing himself that this was just a dream. A really weird dream. Weirder than himself.

He tried to pinch himself to prove his theory right, but instead was met with a sharp pain where grabbed his own skin. Clay's heart skipped a beat when he realized that this wasn't a dream. He took a deep breath, and tried to get his bearings.

He seemed to be in an infirmary of sorts, with rows of beds on either side of the one he was in. Clay swung his legs over the side of the bed and gasped.

Patches of shimmering green scales were dotted around his thighs, his toes having a thin green webbing between them to match.

"What the hell," he muttered, wiggling his morphed toes. Clay's eyes widened as he thought for a moment. If his legs were more fish-like and he could breathe water, did that mean...?

Clay reached up to touch his neck, and felt small slits of skin. He gently breathed in, feeling them move under his fingers. Clay had gills.

What.

The.

Fuck.

Clay was about to scream, when he felt the water ripple around him. He looked up and saw a person peeking around the corner of the door, the fish from before snuggled up in their dark brown hair.

Chocolate brown eyes met forest green ones, and the person darted back around the corner. A half second later a webbed hand snatched the fish back too.

"H-Hello?"

The person peeked around the corner, their eyes wide with curiosity.

"You can speak?" They asked, their voice shockingly british, tilting their head slightly.

Clay caught a case of dumb bitch face and blankly stared back at them. Something flashed from around the corner, catching his eye.

"Uh... Mhm. Yeah," he passively agreed, his eyes focused on the shiny blue fish tail gently keeping the person afloat.

"Oh. Well um... I'm George. I saved you. At least I think I did, can humans breathe underwater?" George's tail swished a little as he fully moved into Clay's view.

George had short brunette hair, clout glasses nestled into his floating locks. Blue scales dotted his checks like freckles, his eyes a sweet honey color in the light. He looked almost like a normal human, asides from the webbed fingers, elbow fins, and patches of scales until you got to his waist. Scales made a gradiant that turned into a long, majestic looking fish tail.

Clay recognised what he was, but that was impossible, right?

Mermaids were only the stuff of fairytales...
