PROLOGUE
People think romantic stories come with no lessons, that it's just a tale of two people falling in love and living happily ever after, that it's a tale of how two people overcome their differences and fight against all odds just to be together, for the love that they share.
But, unfortunately, that is not all that a love story will tell you.
Every love story has its importance, and comes with its own lessons and difficulties. Each character has its own teachings to give. While some of these characters may be much larger than life than you and I, they have their own unique story to tell just like any other ordinary human being. They smile, laugh, talk, love and also grieve.
Yes they do grieve, despite being so much 'larger than life' as we so consider them to be. Grief and sorrow is the most unfavourable state of mind for any person. It is an emotion that most of us try to hide behind our cheerful facades. Similarly, even the characters in our perfect love stories also cry, they grieve and like us, they also try hiding those emotions.
Priya Sharma, daughter of Sudhir and Shipra Sharma was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. A British citizen by birth, she is now living in India having taken over her father's business. She hoped to go back to London where she'd spent eighteen years of her life. She had lost her mother at the age of fourteen. Since then, her father had reminded her everyday that the death of her mother was nothing but a cold blooded, heartless murder. She had died because of his negligence at the hands of her own sister.
Priya had seen everything. From her father at his worst to being courted and lured by other women. And the day she saw him engage in intimate activities in his own bedroom, Priya realised that she would have to learn how to be responsible for herself and her younger brother. So, at the mere age of eighteen, Priya taught herself how to take care of the company's accounts, how to handle the business which her father was so carelessly neglecting.
Then one day, when she had had enough of her father's misadventures in sin, she asked him to move back to Mumbai and go back to the business her grandfather had left behind. And so they moved back, they merged the ventures of their business in London and that in Mumbai to create an affluent industry in the country.
She had left behind her education in London, had left her brother behind to let him finish his education. She had sacrificed everything to make sure that her father did not go back on the wrong path he had chosen when his wife had passed away.
Now, at the age of 28, Priya is sitting in an office, thoroughly annoyed at the delay in the arrival of the owner of the company with whom she had confirmed a deal only hours ago. His team of advisors had confirmed the deal as a result of which she hadn't met him in person.
He is always late.
That was the first impression of the man she had never met before. Three impossibly long minutes passed as she sat in his office, tapping her foot on the luscious marble floor impatiently. The team accompanying her was looking at her warily as she got up from the chair and started pacing the room. They knew she was going to burst any moment. Their boss loathed late comers and at that very moment, they were expecting the worst from her.
"Good Afternoon Ms Sharma," a voice from the door called out. "I am extremely sorry to keep you waiting. I was -"
Before he could finish, Priya rudely interrupted him.
"Sorry? You successfully wasted three precious minutes of my life," she said. Her response came as a major surprise to the man who was now seated on the chair in front of her. "I know you, your life and your company profile. So cut the formality and get to the point so that we can finish this meeting on time."
"Whoa! Calm down. It's been only three minutes. What would have happened in three minutes. Even instant noodles take 5 minutes to get prepared," the man joked. He was bemused at the fiery outburst from the lady in front of him.
But Priya Sharma was in no mood for jokes, "Oh? Is that so? Did you know that Gujarat was destroyed in less than three minutes in 2002. Many dreams shattered that day. So, don't lecture me about what can and cannot happen in three minutes. Now, looking at the expression on your face, you want to table this deal."
Everyone around the room gasped. It was a 200 cr deal and they could not believe that one of the leading industrialists in the nation was willing to table a deal such as this. There was a slight smirk on Priya's face before she continued, "Let me do you a favour Mr Kapoor, I will save you some time by leaving this room right now. In any case, I do not want to waste another thirty minutes in your presence."
"Thirty minutes?" asked Ram.
"Well, fifteen minutes to leave your office and then another fifteen to reach mine," said Priya in an arrogant voice. "Now, if you will excuse me."
Without waiting for a reply, she left the office, her admin team trailing quietly behind her.
Ram Kapoor is left dumbstruck and insulted. He had not been spoken to in that manner in his entire life. Ram Kapoor was a middle aged man in his thirties. He was what the world classified as one of the most eligible bachelors in the nation. He too, was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He was used to having things done in his own way and he could not tolerate it when that did not happen.
This time, he sat in his office, where he had been insulted in front of his employees enraged and determined to turn things in his favour once again.
