He breathed out with relief and ushered Lucy to continue upstairs, she hesitantly took one step after another, her movements ceased with another announcement.
"Mhm~ Row 8, seat number 16!"
It was Lucy's seat.
"No," Lucy whispered.
"Well shit," Kim muttered.
Kim's hand slipped around Lucy's figure and a gasp escaped her lips. He lifted her up and ran through the stairs. Lucy's hands tightened around his neck.
"WHO THE FUCK WAS INCHARGE OF THE FRONT DOOR?!"
"FAT*SS, GO GET THEM."
The panicked voice of the clown rang through the hallways and alerted Kim to quicken his pace through the never-ending stairs. He reached the front wooden door held together by a small lock. He embraced his posture and kicked the door down, having no surety of a plausible escape. His mind drilled to take Lucy far away from the vicious dogs. The Manager pulled out his gun, his immediate gaze being drawn to the much open door. His eyes widened, he was not aware of that detail.
'That Duncan lied.' He clicked his tongue waiting on his revenge. His sturdy legs fastened catching up to the pace of the couple above. Wood board creaked underneath his raging drumming, Kim knew they had caught up to their little scheme.
A burst of starlight greeted their exhausted attires. His eyes darted between the empty rooftop.
"No place t-to hide," Lucy muttered, terror striking in her oceanic eyes.
"No place to run away either, darling," a broad man entered the scene. His gun aimed directly at Lucy's skull. Kim's reflexes took a start, as the man spun the girl close to him.
"Nuh-uh, you don't want the girl dead, do you?" He challenged a smirk forming on his face. Kim noticed the tears wet Lucy's pale cheeks and his heart died.
"Don't," he warned. He clenched his fist.
"You son of a b*tch," the Manager emerged from behind them. He raised the gun near to Kim's left leg and shot without hesitation. Kim couldn't feel anything except the blinding shot that now numbed his ears, however, he could see Lucy's expressions turn into the most horrifying ones as she struggled against the man. A sharp stab of pain raced through him and before anything else took an initiation, his screams did.
The manager ruthlessly grabbed Kim's hair, the same part Lucy oh-so-carefully caressed. Kim's eyes burned with rage and he flung his fist filled with frustration. The manager dodged the bad aim and sighed.
"Hey you know, I can lose my job. But, that expression pisses me off."
Anger stripped on Kim's soft facial structure, he didn't utter a single word yet, his intensity delivered only one message. To leave his woman alone. It disgusted the Manager. Another bullet grazed inside his shoulder, blood ogled from his body. Tears of defeat welled in his eyes as a disturbing vision clouded him. The floor titled and he sprayed onto it. Lucy's life form drained out at the sight of her husband, her mind blanked, and her thoughts only traced the dripping drops that shortened his survival rate. At that point, she forgot how harsh the man gripped her and what her fate awaited. All she knew was that Kim...had to be saved and she couldn't do anything. The hopelessness and doubt weighed her down stronger than her luck.
The manager bent down tracking Kim's chest with the tip of his gun. "So, if we get over with this quick, that is the Lady here obeys, you might have a chance of survival." He snickered and signaled the man to bring the girl downstairs. His fingers wanted to crawl and grasp her hands one more time yet, a blackout stirred Kim.
The clown's grin extended upon the arrival of his next victim. She didn't struggle nor carry any emotions. A tear and sweat stricken-face with empty eyes. Just how he was used to.
"Aw, darling. Did you really think you could escape?" He asked with a smug. She clenched her shawl, signs of discomfort, and panic flooded in her. The spotlight was on her."Where is your husband?" Snickers erupted with the Punters and visible pity arose from the crow. She bit her lip and gritted her teeth to prevent the defeat.
"I mean, did you really think you could live a normal life, Goddess of Bad Luck?" His calm accent whispered. Her eyes widened as she stared blankly at him. Achieving the much-expected reaction he smiled. Questions formed in the crowd.
"That's right! What we have before us is no one other than...The deity of Bad Luck. Quite a pity for her to leave her actual job and marry in hopes of happiness."'Oh yeah...That's right, I-I am the reason Kim's dead...' her thoughts invaded her headspace.
"The starting bid is hm...1 Million." The Clown announced/
"1.5 Million."
"3 Million."
"10 Million."
"50 Million." Once again, the man in the golden mask won the prize.
"50 Million...any takers? 1, 2, 3, and SOLD!" The Clown jumped excitedly.
The two men approached to take her. She glared at them and they stopped dead in their tracks. Uncomfort collided in the crowd. Everyone's hand shot up to their throats within a second, it felt as if though the air was being sucked out of the room. The Punkers tried escaping but doors were locked and breathing became harder.
Lucy whispered, "That's right. You killed him so you don't deserve to live either."
The Clown laughed. "Ah, you never fail to amuse me. Until later," he said and disappeared out of eye-shot. It didn't faze Lucy anymore, nothing did. Not the dying crowd or the disappearing life forms. With a snap, silence fell upon the theatre and she walked out. She pulled her phone out of the pocket and dialed the emergency numbers. She suspected others might have called as well, sirens from far away made it sure. However, she informed them of Kim's position nevertheless.
'It won't take long.'
She raced above the rooftop and kneeled against Kim that lay unconscious. A low painful moan emerged from her, witnessing her love lay on the floor. She knew in order to reverse the bleeding and aid the man, she had to add a misfortune. A great misfortune.
Perhaps, if he forgot her...that should make up for it. Her heartstrings tightened at the very thought of it yet, his protection the first priority. So she did spend her time creating another bad luck that would break them forever. Another little tale she can add to her book. Another lover that she had to lose. Another piece of her wretched soul that fell into the darkness.
She stood up, covering the male with his shawl and for one last time, caressing his soft hair. "I'll keep you safe." She made an empty promise, her words interlaced no guarantee but she was determined and that was enough. The Clown appeared behind her, standing on the edge of the rooftop. He beamed with joy upon her true form.
He sat on his scythe, pulled his robe above his head and extended his skeletal hand tainted with various inscriptions.
"After you, milady."
Note: Honestly, I am just here. Sipping tea with the devil, don't mind me.
