Oakleaf never stopped thinking of his apprenticeship the first week as a warrior. All cats did was tell him that he was not going to be able to hunt like them. He lashed out on his old mentor last night for being told he was normal. No! I am not like you! You'll see! He told himself. All he had to do was prove he was different. He hoped he was able to make them see his difference, but it wasn't going to be easy.
He caught prey every day and made sure to catch two rabbits. Normal cats only could catch one. he had two rabbits and a vole to take to camp. was that enough? "Nice catch, Oakleaf!" birchleaf, his older brother, called. "Thanks. I cought two instead of one. Warriors cant catch two in one go." Oakleaf meowed. "Give one to the elders, Oakleaf. The other rabbit can go to Mapleheart. She hasn't eaten more than a vole today." Softstep told him. Annoyed, he went to the elders den.
"You have a rabbit. Thank you, Oakleaf." Smokepelt said. "Your welcome." Oakleaf replied, dropping the prey next to her. Oakleaf left the den to find his other rabbit being eaten by the apprentices. "Milkpaw! Sandpaw! That rabbit isn't for you!" He growled. Snatching the rabbit, he headed for the nursery.
He has now been tryinv for two whols moons to say he was not normal, but no one seemed to notice what he was trying to say. "I guess its gonna be a secret then." he said. If no cat cared to see it, he would choose not to care. It was a secret he was proud to have. No cat would take it away. He was the only cat that could hear to thw other side of the huge lake. No cat knew that one of the rabbit's scents was different. No way of knoeing how thsy couldnt tell. Tomorrow morning he would go out to catch frogs and lizards. and hope they were noticed at all. If not, then the secret could be kept.
