Okee so I was genuinely pleasantly surprised at how decent this book was aha 😂 honestly I was expecting it to be awful after having read Never Say Die and hating it. Seriously why did Horowitz bring Jack back. Its bullshit. It ruins the entire purpose of Scorpia Rising and also, IF YOU DIDNT WANT A CHARACTER DEAD DONT KILL THEM OFF IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
Creators who bring back characters get on my nerves aha. If you're dead your dead. Bringing someone back when they're clearly dead just takes away the reality of the situation.
Having said that, the whole of the Alex Riders is just Alex being a jammy sod.
During the recap in Nightshade I remember cringing at all this absolutely ridiculous stuff that Horowitz has made the character of Alex do. Hes been to space. What the fuck. Hes been shot but miraculously survived because it missed his heart by mere inches. What the fuck. And that last stunt pulled in Never Say Die where Wolf turned up to save him? WHAT THE FUCKKKK?!? 😂
Basically we dont talk about the 6th(Ark Angel), 7th( the snek one), 8th (Crocodile Tears) or 10th (Never Say Die) book. 😂
Hes a jammy sod, so I suppose it would make sense that Jack would miraculously be alive but I still hate it.
Anyway! Nightshade! After the disastrous Never Say Die I've gotta say Alex Rider's made a comeback aha.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was fangirling every two seconds to my friends on face time and I was screaming in frustration at every mistake Alex made. 😂
And of course all the random naming of the guns cars helicopters and other technology just adds to the aesthetic of it all. At the end of the day I don't care what type gun is being used, I really dont, but you can tell its a Horowitz book when he starts talking about a T19- something gun 😂 it's just his style I guess. Plus it adds to the Alex Rider vibe aha.
Also Tom has a bigger involvement- again? 😂 I was listening to some interviews for the upcoming tv series and everyone kept saying how Tom had a minor role in the books, so they were going to try and make him more significant in the tv series. But I completely disagree. Without Tom Harris in the fourth book-
-Was it the fourth? It couldve been the fifth 🤔 the one where Alex BASE jumps and goes on a school trip to Venice. Ah it was the 5th cos Scorpia was in Venice. Sorry anyway-
-Without Tom, Alex would be dead, so Tom is definitely not a minor character and I don't know where thats come from.
I actually really love the Julius Grief comeback in Nightshade. I like how Horowitz keeps finding new ways to bring Julius back. It's not boring at all.
To be honest though, Alex did a crap job at impersonating him when he was in the Nightshade base aha luckily they dont kno what Julius was like 😂
I imagine there will b some people out there who dont like how everything keeps coming down to Julius Grief all the time, but I actually think that despite him being an absolute loon, he's such an important character and properly helps to shape Alex's character arc. Especially in Scorpia Rising. Which means that the second book is so significant and the TV series had better do it justice.
