The bright sun was warm against my skin while a gentle breeze caressed my cheeks, having my window rolled down to the bottom, despite the damp surroundings. Clouds were nowhere to be found and after a whole cold year, the sea was colored in a deep blue. It was a typical late- June day."Mom, when will we get there?" Johnny complained five minutes after asking the same thing.
"Honey, it hasn't changed much since the last time you asked" mom replied with a rather irritated voice
"You are so annoying, just grow up already" I protested, tired of having the same obnoxious voice complaining by my side.
"Nessa, cut it of with the rude comments" Dad fired me a stern glance through the rear-view mirror. Just as he looked away Johnny stuck his tongue out and mocked me, which was only answered with a rolling eyes of mine. Ladies and gentlemen, that immature kid happens to be my little brother, yey! Lucky me.After a while of having Johnny ask the same thing again and again, we finally got there. We all made a small walk towards the house, carrying our bags and swim equipment. I had been all year long waiting for this day, the first official day of summer. I could tell it would be awesome.
Hopping up the stairs and carrying my backpack to my bedroom, I started unpacking, excited that tonight I got to see my friends. It had been a week since I hadn't seen them because I had gone for a family trip to visit my granny in Paris. Ever since she started hanging out with her new boyfriend, she hasn't stepped foot in Spain, traveling with him around Europe.
I made it to the balcony door of my bedroom, sliding the curtains to the side and welcoming the bright sea reflections. I stepped outside, only to be greeted by that salty smell, the one I had waited for since the first day I tugged myself into a jacket and my purple beanie. My ears were overwhelmed by the familiar sound of the sea waves crashing to the shore, when suddenly a ding coming from my phone interrupted my serene moment. I turned around and walked inside again, closing the glass doors behind me. A few more dings invaded the quiet room and I didn't have to look who was texting me, I already knew they were Stella, Hallie, Blake and Noah.
*THE HOMIES*
Stella: heeey
Me: hellooo
Blake: Yo, this summer's gonna be awesome
Hallie: No doubt
Noah: Bet on it
Stella: r u guys up for tonight?
Hallie: sure thing
Noah: hell yeah
Stella: perfect! See u guys by 10:30 pm?
Me: 'kay
Blake: ;)I tossed the phone to my bed and walked towards my little wardrobe. I took a peek at the clothes I had already placed in the hangers, deciding which outfit I should wear tonight. After a few tries I finally opted for white cotton shorts and a navy blue sweatshirt. Before leaving my bedroom I took a quick glance at the mirror by my side to see if I looked slightly descent. My eye bags were pretty noticeable, but since it was a beach party I didn't apply any makeup.
I jogged down the stairs and went directly to the kitchen. I prepared myself a complete hamburger, making sure I had my stomach full before drinking alcohol tonight. Once I was done eating, I headed towards the garden. The sun was already setting and the air was colder than a few hours ago. Mom and dad were lying in the exterior sofa, talking to each other in a relaxed tone, illuminated by a little anti-mosquito candle. Johnny, on the other hand, was nowhere to be found.
"Where's Johnny?" I asked. They both looked towards my direction and noticed me standing by the glass doors.
"Hey kiddo, I think he's in the living room" dad said, offering me a warm smile.
"Okay... I'm heading out with the guys to the beach party" and now was the part when I got interrogated. Dad seemed to be okay with it- he always was- however, mom always found it hard to let me hang out this late, not that I blamed her. I turned around before she could say anything, but of course, she was faster.
"Not so fast, Nessa" I released a heavy sight and looked at her again. "When are you coming back home, with who and where's this so-called beach party?" She stared at me with a stern look, waiting for me to answer.
"The party will last all night, but I'll be here by 2. I'll come with Stella and Blake and the party is in the Llaner Gran beach." Mom and I stared at each other, with a little smirks in both our lips. Dad was looking between us, about to witness a curfew-hour argument.
"One o'clock" Mom simply said, with a smirk still played on her lips, mine, however, long gone.
"Mom c'mon, it's the first night of summer" I complained.
"And that's why. You have plenty of nights ahead of you to stay till 2" I looked at her with my eyebrows furrowed. "One o'clock" she repeated. I looked at dad now, begging him for some help. He looked back at me and then glanced to his wrist clock. Right after he placed his hand on mom's shoulder and looked at her with loving eyes, huh, gross.
"C'mon Jessie, it will only be until 2 o'clock, she will be okay" mom sighted and nodded in approval, still looking at dad. Yes! She then, turned around to look at me with concerned eyes.
"Okay, but be here at 2 o'clock, not a single minute later" she told me with a warning glance.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I walked towards their direction and squeezed them into a tight hug. "Bye" I finally said turning around.I made it inside and grabbed my purse from the kitchen counter, right where I had placed it. After heading outside I popped my head to the living room. Johnny was sprawled on the couch, focused on whatever film he was watching. I walked towards him and rubbed his hair. He looked at me with a crooked smile.
"You're so annoying" he said, now looking back to the television screen.
"That's why you love me" I placed a kiss on the back of his head and made it to the door. He was sometimes really irritating, nonetheless, we got along pretty well.
"Bye" I shouted, to let dad and mom know I was leaving and opened the door afterwards.
"Be careful honey" dad said from the garden, and then a high-pitched voice coming from mom added "and don't be late" I laughed to myself and rolled my eyes.
"I won't "I shouted back and closed the door right after.
