(Pov 3rd person kinda)

Mist could tell Emma didn't want to go back to that building, but if she didn't, she would be stuck here forever like she was. For all Mist knew, Emma could have already been here for a few months, the friends she talked about must have been worried sick about her. Mist just figured her friends thought she was dead and moved on but Emma, she still had a chance.

Their original plan was to go in the cover of night but then it would be harder for Emma to see and they could use all the help they could get with her powers. Plan B was what they were working on now. Emma suggested that they sneak in and take the portal peace by piece, until they could build it somewhere else. Mist explained that this kind of portal could and would die if they were taken apart, so that plan was a bust. Mist thought since she could be able to sense an entity's essence, she could go in and take out the guards much quicker so they could get Emma through the portal, and then Mist could destroy the portal, like the Universe wanted. Emma wondered how she would get there then. Some time later they still didn't have a full plan.

"What plan are we on now? Plan Q?" Emma joked.

Mist just shrugged and stretched her wings. She hadn't gone flying in hours and her wings were stiff and itching to fly. Mist wished she could. It would help take her mine off of their plans. The thought of so many plans reminded her of an old song that she used to sing. Mist started to murmur it to herself while Emma looked at the map that Mist had sketched earlier.

'...plans and plans,

The movement of the mind

As you chosen the choice

That makes it clear

Potions are near

Potions are near...'

"Potions!" Mist yelled, making Emma jump again.

After muttering a quick apology for startling her, Mist went to her little kitchen. In one of the cabinets, Mist took out some bottles of potions and went back to Emma.

Mist dropped the crystal bottles on the table and explained, "We could just break through! Using these potions we could fight our way through more efficiently! We need to use these!"

Emma sighed, "Okay so we go at dawn when there is light but just enough that we can hide under the cover of darkness, we use potions, we get to the portal room, I go through, and then you destroy the portal?"

"Yeah that seems about right!"

Emma looked thoughtful for a second then asked, "What are you going to do here? Is it just you in this place?"

Mist seemed surprised by the question, but answered anyway. "Well... Yeah, kinda. But it's fine, I've been here so long that this is my home now!"

"I'm not convinced."

Mist sighed and looked out one of the two windows sadly. Her voice became blunt as she said, "Look, the Universe wants me here so here I'll stay."

"Who cares about the Universe? Don't you have friends you want to get back to?"

"This isn't about me..." Mist said through gritted teeth.

"You could come with me! I live in the woods and the house isn't huge but it still works. Oh! And Sprinkles! She really needs a flight instructor, I try to help her learn but I'm not the best teacher because, well," Emma gestured to her wingless back, "Oh! Tallesay would love your feathers and your creativity and Storm would play dress up with you in a heartbeat!" Emma seemed to be beaming with joy as she talked about her friends; "Prince er-Jackson would... be your friend I guess. Oh and Jeff, he's a weird guy but he means well."

Mist was slightly irritated by all the talk about Emma's friends but, it also made her feel like they were her friends too. Mist listened to Emma talk about her friends, regret welling up inside her. Mist did have friends once. A long time ago.

Emma paused when she saw the expression on Mist's face, and Mist took the opportunity to answer one of the questions Emma had asked.

"I did have friends once. In another world. We called the world Fortune because we were 'fortunate to be there'. At first everything was fine. Everyone was fine and dandy until one day I found a cave. Inside the cave was a thing. I couldn't tell what it was but it was glowing and had a bluish tint to it. Every fiber of my being was telling me to touch it, and I did, because it felt like I would die if I didn't. After I touched the thing... I think I absorbed it, so I had a thing inside of me and I couldn't get rid of it.

"I told my friends that I had an alter-ego and dubbed it Night's Sky, or Sky for short. At first, when Sky would take hold of my body, it would just do harmless things, like pranks, building a random thing here and there, and other things like that. Unfortunately, as the weeks went on, it got worse. My friends started disappearing and I had a horrible feeling that Sky had something to do with it.

"The last time Night's Sky took my body, I fought back. It felt like I was fighting against my whole being. I used all the magic within me to protect my friends. My remaining friends told me not to leave... Not to go away... but I had no choice.... I... I tried to create a portal to a place that no one could get to so then everyone would be safe, but the Universe had different plans. It warped the portal so then I would go to this place. I couldn't leave then, so I can't leave now."

Emma just sat there, stunned. Mist looked awkward for a second before standing up and flying out one of the open windows. Emma looked on and thought over what she'd just learned about her new friend.

(Pov; Emma)

"They always leave," Emma said in a hushed tone, "I guess the only thing I can do right now is let her get some air."

Emma grabbed some paper and a pencil and started writing down the plan,

'It must have been hard for her.'

Her grip on the pencil grew tighter.

'Of course it was hard for her, you idiot! What would it be like for you if you never saw Sprinkles again?'

Even tighter.

'No, don't think about that, It'll only distract you. We need to be at our best if we want to get out of here alive. Or even at ALL! It's your fault she wanted to leave, you just kept on pushing it.'

SNAP!

Emma looked down at the broken pencil that was now scattered around her. Sighing, she stood up from the sitting position she was in on the floor and bumped into a table, scattering the idioms on top.

"Maybe I need some air too."

(Mist's PoV)

Mist flew into the sky. The air was fresh up here, and her wings felt good, holding her weight as She flew. Mist closed her eyes against the sunlight and went down to the trees again. She landed on one of the larger trees, a large birch with a good view of the building they were about to break into. She could feel the guards guarding like they usually did. Mist usually left them alone, but she knew that she would have to fight them soon. Thinking about fighting again hurt her. Mist winced at the memories of Fortune.

Sky forcing her to stab her best friend in the stomach. Mist running from her friends, trying to explain that it wasn't her. It was her alter-ego. She winced and placed her hand on her shoulder. The scar twinged with the phantom pain of being hit again by an arrow.

Mist shook herself, and let go of the memories. Finally, she took off, and headed home. The wind had dried her tears by the time she landed on her balcony and walked into the small treehouse.

"Sorry I flew out that, I just needed to-" Mist started to explain, but stopped when she saw she was talking to herself. Emma wasn't there. The room was full of clutter, it looked like there was a struggle.

Mist's breath caught and she flew out of the house again, looking for Emma, and hoping she was alright.
