Omegaverse is a subgenre of speculative erotic fiction, and originally a subgenre of erotic fan fiction ("slash fiction"). Its premise is that humans are either dominant "alphas", neutral "betas" or submissive "omegas".This terminology is derived from the one used in ethology to describe social hierarchies in animals.
Other common aspects of Omegaverse fiction include wolf-like or other animal-like behavior in humans, especially as pertains to sex. These include the rut, pheromonal attraction between alphas and omegas,("knotting"),pack structures and breeding.Male omegas are also often conceived of as being able to become pregnant.Omegaverse fiction often features other fantasy elements such as the presence of werewolves or other fantastical creatures.
