BEEP BEEP

The ringing stopped as soon as it began, the sound making you and Tracer direct your attention towards the entrance of the lab.

"Ah, speak of the devil, he must've arrived." Winston said as he got up and lumbered towards the door, punching some numbers into the keypad beside it as the metal entrance began to slide open. What you saw on the other side was something beyond your wildest imagination.

A warrior, clad in white and green, he carried two swords, one sheathed at his hip and a longer one strapped to his back. His face was covered by a silver mask, showing only a lime green visor from which his eyes weren't visible. The way he carried himself and his mere presence spoke more words than mere facial expressions could ever hope to achieve. Fearlessness, ferocity, strength; but there was also something else...

Pain, sorrow and regret.

"Winston. It is good to see you again, my old friend."

"Of course! Likewise, Genji. The world needs Overwatch more than ever, and we're glad to have you back on board. Come in and take a seat, we have a new member who I'm sure is excited to meet you!"

"Yes. Let us talk about what we should do next."

The cybernetic warrior walked beside the scientist as they moved to the table that you and Tracer were sat down at. You couldn't tell where the man was looking, but you felt as though he was taking glances at you as he walked. Then, his eyes finally met yours directly.

"Ah! So is this pajama boy our new member?" He asked playfully, chuckling to himself afterwards.

Great. At least he has a sense of humor. You really hope that nickname doesn't stick. You could already hear Tracer trying to stifle her laughter. "That's exactly what I thought!" She chirped, as you gave her a glare.

"That he is! Genji, (Y/N), (Y/N), Genji!" Replied Winston, his glance shifting rapidly between the both of you. Genji held out his hand and offered a handshake, which you returned firmly. "It is an honor to meet you, young one. I hope that we will work well together." He said in a heartfelt tone. You smiled back. "Likewise."

"And Tracer, it is an honor to be reunited with you. I'm sure we will all achieve great things together." She gave a bright grin and a wink in return, "Of course cap'n!"

A few minutes passed by as the reunited comrades talked about various things, the things they accomplished when Overwatch was active, and the eventual but unfortunate fall of the organisation of heroes. You sat by on your chair drifting off in your own thoughts as the awkward feeling of being out of place began to creep up on you, you felt as if you stuck out like a sore thumb. A kid sat in his pajamas in the midst of actual heroes, who's merit knows no bounds.

You had always dream't of being a hero before you ran away from that god forsaken excuse for an orphanage, you imagined yourself saving the world and bringing happiness and contentment to everyone who needed it. Little did you know how much of a toll living on the run would take on your state of mind, constantly having to be on your toes, knowing that you were going to be on your own for the rest of your foreseeable existence. You didn't regret a minute of it though. Life does have a way of opening new paths to those who are willing to take them, and perhaps this could be yours.

You listened to the beeps and clicks of Winston's various computers and systems running in the background as you tilted your head up, the chit chat of the group turning slowly into white noise. "What's your favorite food, (Y/N)?" The odd question snapped you out of your trance and you shifted your attention towards Lena, she was probably just trying to get you involved in the conversation. "I don't know, I usually just eat whatever's available; miso ramen, probably?" You responded, cocking your eyebrow in curiosity.
