Your eyes opened slowly, and the past 24 hours rushed through your head.
'Wait, that all really happened, didn't it?'
You moved your head to the side and you weren't in some dank and scruffy den, or a shipping container, or even a crate full of fruit for that matter. You were in a cozy bed, in Gibraltar, in Winston's lab.
You sat up and you didn't feel groggy at all, in fact, you'd felt like you had been sleeping for the past 3 years! You hadn't obviously, but to say you felt ready to start the day would be an understatement. You felt energized, but in a calm and content sort of way. You couldn't remember what it felt like to be "home" anymore, but it probably felt something close to this.
You stretched your legs and got up out of bed, feeling the hard floor on your bare feet. You glanced out the window and saw the waves crashing among each other in the distance, with seagulls chirping happily over a bright blue sky and an even brighter sun. It was a beautiful day. You picked up your katana and walked out of your room, not bothering to dress out of your pajamas yet, that could come later. You peered over the metal railings to the bottom floor and saw Winston chatting with someone over a banana and some coffee. She was wearing an orange jump suit and had short brown hair, you couldn't put your finger on it, but there was already something very bright and outgoing about her. Well, the orange jumpsuit, maybe?
"Ah good morning (Y/N)! Have a good sleep in?" Winston said cheerfully as you moved your glance towards him. "Oh! Uh, yeah. Thanks for giving me a place to stay!" you said in an awkward but genuine tone. Winston smiled and waved off the gratitude. The woman's glance shot up towards you. "Hey there! You alright pajama boy? Winston told me about all your antics yesterday, gave me a right laugh! Come down here so we can talk!" You blushed slightly at the nickname, if you knew that guests would be over so soon you would've gotten changed sooner! "Uh sure, i'll be right down."
You sat at the table with Winston and this strange girl, munching on some toast that Winston prepared for you as they talked about various things. "Oh! I'm Lena by the way! People used to call me Tracer, either or's fine. Pleased t' meet ya!" she said, offering a handshake which you accepted. "So, ya just a kid, ey?" she asked, looking at you brightly. "Well, technically I guess, but I've been through quite a lot, and I think I've learned some decent skills on my travels..." "Aha! I'm sure that crate lid would vouch for that!" she said laughing as you remembered how you dramatically you kicked the top off of the crate and leaped out in front of Winston. You had to giggle to yourself a little bit, thinking how it must've looked in retrospect.
Winston chirped in. "Seriously though, judging from what little I've seen of you, the way you move and such... You are indeed an interesting young man. And judging by that sword you carry around, I'm sure there's a lot more we've yet to see!" he stated enthusiastically. "I know a thing or two I guess..." you replied.
You had to admit, you weren't the greatest at social interactions, but it felt like it was coming back to you, slowly. Your optimism, your idealism and your bright demeanor that could inspire almost anyone. All of the time you had spent trying to do nothing but survive had shaped you into something distant from what you used to be. Something cold, even ruthless at times. But perhaps now, you had an opportunity to be something better, something true.
"Well, (Y/N), on behalf of all of Overwatch, welcome aboard!" Lena chirped.
"Wait, so I'm an official member now?"
"If the legendary Tracer declares it so, then I suppose it will be!" Winston added happily.
"Reminds you of someone doesn't he? With that sword he carries around... Not to mention those serious moves you told me about..."
"Oh, of course! You must be talking about-"
BEEP BEEP!
"Ah, speak of the devil, he must've arrived."
