I am SORRY. I just ADORE when Jayfeather lets himself prove to others that he isn't just an angry, snappy furball all of the time!
This is at Briarlight's vigil, and Jayfeather is attempting to speak about her:
As they sat down again, Jayfeather rose to his paws. "She never gave up," he began. "She never-" His voice choked, and he couldn't go on.
"She never lost her courage or her sense of humor," Alderheart continued, springing up to stand beside Jayfeather. "She was a very special cat, and we'll both miss her. Not because we looked after her, but because she was our friend."
Jayfeather nodded. To Alderheart's surprise, Fuzzball crept up and sat quietly beside him. He was even more astonished to see Jayfeather reach out with his tail and touch the little ginger tom lightly on his shoulder.
Awww.
For anyone who's read all the way up to the latest books, have you all noticed that for many of the vigils that Jayfeather has been in, he's so overwhelmed with grief that he can't even speak? I love that so much about him and his character. Like I said in a previous chapter, it just shows how much he really does genuinely care for his friends, family and Clanmates, even though he doesn't show it often.
Also, the Fuzzball moment. CUTENESS.
