You tossed and turned for hours, you studied every feature on your boyfriend's face, smiling at his peaceful state. You shifted and stretched, but still sleep did not come to you. Your eyes darted around the room, corner to corner, window to window. You flipped over, facing the resting Texan. You huffed.
The hot air released from your lungs traveled to Dell's slumbering face, waking him once the cool air filled the space that was once warm. He squeezed his eyes and fluttered them open. You gripped the sheets as he grinned at you.
"What're you doin' up so late, darlin'?" He asked with a sleepy, grainy voice.
"I-I didn't mean to wake you up, Dell.. Sorry.." You pulled the sheets up to your nose and looked away from him. He chuckled and planted a soft kiss on your forehead. You cuddled up to him and heard a soft "c'mere" as he grabbed you, pulling you closer and stroking your hair.
"Now why aren't you asleep, sugarcube?" You melted at his nicknames. They reminded you of home. Of chamomile tea, with thick honey and a minty taste.
"I can't sleep."
"I can see that." He chuckled. You listened to the low rumble that came from deep within his chest. "(Y/N), we've got a battle tomorrow. You've got to sleep." He continued stroking your hair. You lifted your and up to his chin and lightly traveled your thumb across his lips. You could feel a smile tug at the sides of his face, you sighed with content.
"Dell?" You said, bordering a whisper.
"Hm?"
"Can you sing me a song?"
He looked at you and stroked your cheek.
"Of course, darlin'."
He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in close, your hand on his chest and another on the pillow. His voice was beautiful and rich, even when it wasn't accompanied by the melody of a guitar.
He wasn't two verses in before you fell asleep in his arms, dreaming of what to come the following morning. Whatever it would be, you would spend every moment with him.
