It had already been a couple of days but I couldn't shake what Xander had confessed to me out of my mind. He had found his mate, which was the most important part of a werewolf's life besides a wolf's first shift. No, finding one's mate was more important. A mate gave you purpose and a reason to live.
I couldn't help but to be excited for Xander even though I knew that he was dreading the whole situation. While I encouraged him for the sake of his happiness, I later realized that I was kind of projecting my own hopes and aspirations onto him.
In the last few days, I'd started to doubt myself a bit. I was the new head alpha of the Shadowclaw pack, a pack that had an almost flawless reputation for a couple of decades. The pressure on my shoulders to keep the pack running smoothly in all aspects was immense, and I'd been finding myself overwhelmed by everything. To top it off, I was also 19 already and I still hadn't found my mate. It's not like I was a late bloomer; I had my first shift at the ripe age of 14. I knew that werewolves found their mates at varying ages, but I couldn't help but think that maybe I didn't have a mate.
The idea of that made me internally shiver. I needed a mate more than anyone. Being head alpha, I needed a mate who would diffuse the aggressive and impulsive tendencies that came with being an alpha. I was one hundred percent sure that I would be less stressed if I'd found my mate already, and I felt myself longing for someone who I wasn't sure even existed.
I furrowed my brow as I attempted to stop dwelling on myself. I had to make sure that Xander was taken care of, since he was the one who'd found his mate in the first place. I knew that since Xander was dreading having a mate, he wouldn't take the initiative on anything. That being said, I decided to take it upon myself to find a way so that he and Elias could get more comfortable with each other. Once I got them to talk to each other at least once, I knew everything else would unfold from there, even if it took a while for them to fully seal their mate bond.
After pondering on a way to get the two together that wouldn't be too awkward or suspicious, I settled on hosting another dinner. This way, Xander and Elias would be in close range to each other but not completely alone just yet. I would host it in the dining hall in a couple of days, and I wouldn't tell Xander about it until later that day.
I grabbed a pen and a piece of paper so I could give a written invitation to Aspen. After writing a date and time for the dinner, I walked out of my room and shut the door, heading to the training grounds since it was where Aspen, Luca, and Elias were most likely to be.
Once I'd made it there, I naturally went straight towards the benches but didn't see Aspen there. I looked around until I noticed her on the field, practicing kicks and blocks with her brother. I was going to wait and give the invitation to her later when I looked back over and saw a bored-looking Luca sitting idly on a bench. I smiled fondly. I guess I could give this to him instead.
I made my way over to where Luca sat and he looked up at me. "Hi, alpha Felix."
"Hi, Luca, and just Felix is fine," I smiled and then looked around in mild confusion. "Where's Elias?"
Luca looked towards the bench that was furthest away from the sunlight, which held a sleeping Elias who was breathing deeply. Luca and I looked back at each other and chuckled.
"I guess someone needed a nap," I said.
As I looked down at Luca's sitting figure, I noticed his long eyelashes that were brightened by the sunlight. His hair looked as soft as ever and I realized that his cheeks were brushed with a subtle spray of light freckles. He really was beautiful. Luca looked up at me as if he was waiting for me to speak, which flustered me and snapped me out of my trance.
"Um, well anyways..." I handed him the paper and he took it, reading what I'd written. "I was going to give this to Aspen, but since she's training then I figured I should give it to you. I hope you can make it."
Luca smiled softly and looked back up at me. "Sure, I'd love to. I'll make sure to give this to Aspen and Elias later."
"Great," I said, trying to mask my overenthusiasm. "And, um, if Xander talks to you between now and the dinner, don't mention it, ok?"
The brown haired boy looked up at me with a slightly quizzical expression. "Um, ok."
"Ok, then," I responded, moving my hand to scratch the nape of my neck. "I'll see you in a couple of days."
Luca nodded as I turned to walk away. I grinned to myself as I left the training field and tried as hard as I could to be patient until it was time for the dinner.

Felix is a secret wingman who is longing to find his own mate, too. Wonder who it could be... If you enjoyed this chapter, please leave a vote and comment how you think the dinner will go!
ALSO: some of you have left comments so I will let you know now in case it wasn't clear before that I'm trying to make this a ~slowburn~ I get that it can be frustrating since MMT is still ongoing but it will make it so much more satisfying when it's completed! Thanks for your patience and support always ♡ - D
