Roberto Miguel's POV
The sound my cellular phone ringing drew me out from my deep thoughts. I'd been thinking a lot the past days. Things to consider like my life, my wife and the hacienda were making my head ached.
"Hello, Jay." I greeted the man on the other line wondering why he called. It was past seven in the evening. I was even contemplating of going home and talked to Arabella.
"Robby, Martina got a call from the hospital thirty minutes ago. Most probably because her name is in Ara's speed dial. You have to come to the hospital. Arabella - "
"What happened to my wife?" I interrupted what he was about to say. A sudden panic rose and my heart was beating so fast. I was actually scared and worried.
"Robby, there was an accident. Her car bumped to a delivery vehicle..." Jay informed me but I wasn't able to capture the other details. I was never been scared in my whole life not until now.
I drove the car like a bat from hell to the hospital where my wife was taken.
'Oh, God, please don't let anything wrong happen to Arabella.'
I was silently praying and to be honest I wasn't really fond of doing so.
I arrived in the hospital and Jay met me at the entrance.
"Where's my wife?"
"She's still in the emergency room and unconscious." Jay was telling me while we were heading to the ER.
I saw Martina, my wife's best friend walking back and forth along the hallway of the ER.
The doctor came out and asked if who was related to the patient. I presented myself and he explained that my wife needs to be operated and he let me sign the consent paper.
My mind was in chaos. I was worried about Ara. I was very scared of thinking she wouldn't make it.
'Ara, please don't die on me. Please don't...' I was talking to her in my mind. I couldn't imagine her being lifeless, worst-case dead. No I couldn't take it. I wouldn't let her die.
I prayed for the first time in my life.
After hours of waiting, the doctor came out and announced Arabella was under monitoring and still unconscious. Her head injury was severe and temporary or permanent memory loss was possible.
I sat on the chair, feeling weak. I couldn't take it. Memory loss? Amnesia?
'Ara... Oh, God please don't...' I was pleading in my head. Begging God not to do this to Ara.
She was taken to the ICU and I tried to talk to the doctor privately. I wanted to be assured about her condition. The doctor said to wait until Arabella got conscious and if her vital signs would be stable she'd be transferred to a private room.
Everything happened in blurry. I talked to the police since they need the statement and behalf of my wife I tried to explain to them. I was told by the chief investigator that the delivery van lost control and bumped her car. I wanted to murder the driver. The police assured that the driver had already surrendered.
I was granted by the doctor to enter the ICU but with proper instructions and hospital protocol. I stood beside her bed. My heart wrenched seeing her with all the tubes and medical stuff connected to her body. She looked lifeless, only the sound of the monitor of her heartbeat assured me she was breathing. Her head was plastered and the abrasions on her arm and knee due to the impact were also plastered.
"You'll be okay, Ara. When you wake up, we will talk and this time we will work things out. Please, wake up. I will be waiting for you, Arabella." I told her softly pretending she could hear me. My vision got blurry, I just realized that I was crying.
