As we approach the scorched convent, my heartbeat reaches my ears. My hands shake and I bit my lip so hard it bleeds, "Drive faster." I all but spit at the man behind the wheel, him already going almost three times the speed limit.
"We're almost there, just breathe." Richard attempts halfheartedly to calm me, his own mind definitely thinking that the worst has come, much to my disappointment.
I can't help the glare that I throw his way, "Breathing isn't bringing Rachel back," I involuntarily snap.
We park the car and rush out, "She must've lost control." Richard mutters as we look at the sheer destruction.
Our eyes frantically look around the property, hoping to see someone not dressed as a nun or a firefighter, "Maybe she's still here." Kory clearly sees the distress on our faces.
Richard rushes towards one of the sisters as she heads towards and ambulance, "Hey, where're Rachel? Is she okay?" He interrogates, not giving her enough time to answer one question before saying the next.
The nun looks up at us with blank eyes, "She left. Took the little one and ran."
I push beside Richard at that vague response, "What happened?" I demand to know, my eyes narrowing as my patience grows thin.
"Huh? We just wanted to keep her here. Keep her safe, that's all. Where no one could hurt her and she couldn't hurt anyone. There's no stopping it now." The woman gives me an expression of horror as she speaks.
Kory steps in now, "Stopping what?"
The sister doesn't answer, instead her eyes gloss over, "There's no stopping it now. Oh, God. God, forgive me. God, forgive us all." She incesantly prays as a paramedic escorts her away to an ambulance.
We get back into the car, not finding any information other than the fact that both girls are together, "Closest police station is fifteen minutes from here. You better get there in five," I tell the detective at my side, my mind whirring as I worry about the two girls.
Dick takes off with a speed that cannot even remotely be considered legal. Meanwhile, Kory begins talking, "Why did you leave her here?"
I look at her with a raised eyebrow, "In a convent full of nuns? Yeah, seemed real dangerous at the time. Not to mention the fact that they helped raise Rachel, they knew her. Seemed real dangerous," I sarcastically respond to her question.
Richard sighs and looks at Kory through the rear-view mirror, "You know, you're the one who stole my car and drove off." He counters.
Kory lets out a dry chuckle at this, "Yeah, I thought Avery would've sat that one out, stayed to watch Rachel or something but I should've known better considering you what happened in DC, you were gonna drag her along then too," Kory motions to me for that last part.
"I didn't mean to ditch Rachel, okay? I was trying to -"
The magenta haired woman cuts off the detective, "You just couldn't handle her, so you left her with your friends. You wanted a do-over. It's pathetic."
I groan in frustration and sternly glare at both of them, "Look, you two can about this after we find them, okay? Rachel's getting more powerful, and she has no idea how to control it," I remind them of the actual circumstances we're in, knowing we don't have the best odds right now.
