After a fifteen minute bus ride, the bus comes to a screeching halt at the entrance of the school. The bus doors open with a loud squeak and everyone starts trying to get off as quickly as possible. Roman, Patton, Logan, and I sat in my seat until we were the last  people off and they all walk to the doors but I hesitate.

I take a deep breath before slowly making my way to the silver doors. I wrap my hand around the cool metal handle and pull the door open, my backpack slightly falling off my shoulder. I see everyone part ways to go to their first period and I do the same, making my way silently to the history room.

As soon I as I walk in I can tell it's going to be a slow day, the rooms lights were turned off and the window shades were closed so the only light in the room came from the open door. I take a seat in the back on the room and lean forward resting my head on my right fist and watch everyone else take a seat with their lovers or best friends.

Mrs.Sandra claps her hands loudly before announcing we will be watching a movie about the Alamo. The movie title is literally just "The Alamo" and is about Sam Houston rebelling against Texas and how Sam and his men prepare for a standoff at a battle-worn mission called the Alamo. I sit there and take notes every so often during the movie while almost everyone else in class, including Mrs.Sandra, are sleeping.

The movie is a little less than halfway done when the bell rings for second period. I quickly gather my things and start heading to my science class. I take a seat somewhere in the middle because the back rows are filled and set my bag down, taking out my notebook and book.

I'm spacing out and the teachers talk turns into muffled mumbling to me until I hear him yell out my name. "Virgil!" He yells and my head snaps up. "Can you repeat the question?" I ask softy feeling my face heat up with embarrassment.

"I asked you how to dissolve/ destroy a diamond?" He asks and I freeze for a second. "In acid?" I say but it comes out as more of a question. I hear the other students giggle as the girl in front of me raises her hand.

"Bobo?" Mr. Greenspan says pointing his pencil in her direction. "A diamond will not dissolve in acid, the only thing that can destroy it is intense heat" She says and then lowers her head back down to her notebook. "Correct Miss. May" He says with a proud look on his face but Bobo doesn't look up.

"I now ask you, Mr. Storm, How are the carbon atoms in a diamond arranged?" He asks turning to me. "Th-The atoms are u-unbreakable?" I say once again coming out more like a question. Mr. Greenspan sighs as a boy across the room raises his hand.

"Zack?" Mr.Greenspan says turning his attention to him. "The carbon atoms in diamonds are arranged in a strong, tetrahedral structure" Zack says mocking me with a wink as Mr.Greenspan praises him for the correct answer.

"One last chance at redemption Mr. Storm, What is the best known thing about diamonds?" He asks looking me dead in the eyes. "D-Diamonds are t-the best known th-thermal conductor among na-naturally occurring subst-substances" I say stuttering, fearing my answer being wrong. "Correct, thanks for having you back with us" Mr.Greenspan says turning back to the board and I let out a silent sigh in relief.

All of a sudden the PA system crackles to life and my name is called to come to the front desk. I gather all my stuff and make my way to the front office. When I open the door there is a boy a bit taller than me, with a black bowler hat and brown hair standing with his back to me.

I see the receptionist hand him his schedule and locker information. When he turns his eyes meet mine and he gasps, his eyes growing wide. "Oh, Virgil would you care to give Janus here a tour of the school?" The receptionist asks.

"Sure" I say and I do a hand gesture for Janus to follow me. He lowers his head a bit and I swear I see a light pink dusting his face but I brush it off as embarrassment from being crowded in a new school. "So, your new?" I ask not knowing how to make conversation.

He just silently nods. I give an awkward smile not knowing how to continue the conversation so I don't and just show him around.
