Back online? That was impossible. Sam remembered his final moments on the grid, having reached the portal after a long journey, constantly being perused by CLU and his army.

His father and CLU's creator, Kevin Flynn, had sacrificed himself to let him and Quorra escape, taking The Grid down with him.

Sam suddenly felt a wave of sadness rush over him. He'd had some vague amount of hope that his father would still somehow have survived the final encounter with CLU, but there'd been no message since. No page, no significant line of code on the Grid's input screen, nothing.

Until now.

Sam had originally intended to finish a document for a meeting with the board at Encom, but this was far more important. If his father was still somehow alive, he had to find him. He'd risk his company, but it was a risk he'd have to take. After all, if it wasn't for his father, he wouldn't even be at Encom.

"I've got to go back." He looked Quorra dead in the eye, knowing this was his only choice. "I can't just... Leave him there."

"Sam, we don't even know if it's him. It could be some sort of automated system. Although..." she looked deep in thought, as if something else had occurred to her.

Quorra nodded. "If you're going in there, so am I."

Sam shook his head nervously. "no, no way. Dad said to keep you safe. What if CLU's back, or someone worse is in his place? I can't risk it."

Quorra had already put on her leather jacket, and was walking over to the Ducati. "I know my way around in there. And besides, you know I can take care of myself. You're right, it could be dangerous in there- that's why I have to go with you. We'll stand more of a chance that way. Besides, if you got stuck in there, what would I do?"

Sam sighed. He knew she was right. He nodded, and started the Ducati's engine. It revved into life and stood idling, purring softly.

"Let's go."

It didn't take long to reach the arcade. It was empty, a sign on the door reading "Re-opening soon."

"Re-opening soon," he thought.
"Yeah right."

That sign had been there ever since Sam had taken back Encom, and it didn't look like it'd be moving anytime soon.

He'd intended to re-open the arcade. Retro games were all the rage, and it'd be good for business. Something about it just... Didn't feel right.

His father's entire legacy lie in that arcade. He couldn't bring himself to risk it's destruction.
