Toronto - Mumbai wasn't that easy

The old house stored in the midst of gloominess.
A monster made out of wood , its claws towering to catch the next prey. It stood on a little hill land , covered in moss on the corners with an unlighted row of windows on the second floor. Trees scattered in the front yard, where we stood.
One word : creepy.
The tall structure was Barren as if it's abandoned since ages , bearing a great deal of pain and cries. It felt so hollow and sad that it made shehnaaz's  spine shudder.
Or maybe this is how she wanted the house to be, so she could use that as an excuse to go back to her old house. Shehnaaz was making this up because this was not how she planned.
Her parents weren't supposed to be divorced, her boyfriend wasn't supposed to dump her (in front of the whole school ,must add) , she wasn't supposed to spend her senior year in an oddly exotic place all of a sudden!
The house was ancient and abundant- sure , quite eerie too, but it was mediaevally beautiful. And they got this at a very low rent !

"Isn't it beautiful, shehnaz?" Her elder brother; Shehbaaz got out of his car and stood near her. " This place is much more peaceful than our neighbourhood back in Toronto."
" Nope. Nowhere near beautiful. And too quiet. Creepy !" Shehnaz shuddered which shehbaaz ignored.

" Aye, come on now. Help me unload the bags " shehbaaz tugged her back to the car

Shehnaaz scoffed like a little girl and suggested , " Why don't we go back to Toronto ? I hate this place. Super creepy!"  I think  she saw someone watching from the windows above. "Not safe" she exaggerated.
Shehbaaz laughed at that, " Oh , we both know that's not happening. Remember what mum said, Toronto is past now ".

" Mumbai  is present and hell in future," shehnaaz added that last part on her own.

Shehbaaz laughed again and reminded while gazing  the sky, " It'll be if you keep standing here. Looks like it will rain. So , hurry before we get ourselves and our luggage weight." Shehnaaz humped her shoulders and lazily followed her brother to get their bags.
Shehbaaz helped mom move most of our furniture and luggage a month ago when she moved here. Shehbaaz and shehnaaz stayed back in Toronto with their grandmother to complete their semesters. Shehbaaz just graduated from high school and will attend springwood University this fall ( away from Mumbai ).

And shehnaaz ? She'll in this help hole while she finish her senior year without her best friend, Shefali Bagga  , and her dad . Mom got a back office job for the night shift in one of the finest restaurants named The Queen Tart , all thanks to aunt Ravina.

After the divorce, her mum thought moving across the country would be helpful for all of them. And just like that, shehnaaz's life changed when her dad cheated on her mom !
" Move your feet," shehbaaz said as he came to pick up a back after opening the door.

" It's heavy ;" shehnaaz cried as she walked behind baad inside the house.
" I told you to give away your books."
" Touch my books and I'll kill you-" shehnaaz I warned him.
It was spacious. And it smelled a lot like her old house, which she noticed because of mom's favourite lavender room freshener. The living room stretched white in front of them , a staircase attached to the wall on the right took up to the second floor. Kitchen on the left behind what shehnaaz assumed to be the garage.
"That's mom room" baaz pointed at the door across them , on the other side of the living room

Two leather couches from their old house sat there in L- shape, and shehnaaz craned her neck as she walked forward , where their old TV was stationed on the far wall . She took a breath of relief as she saw the familiar furniture. Who knew that old rusted furniture could give you happiness ?

" Our rooms !" Shehnaaz turned back towards baaz , who was already climbing the stairs with two heavy bags . He pointed upwards and she grinned with excitement .
