The "Strong Woman"

Why do you let that man have so much power;
So much power over you?
I wasn't supposed to let you make me.
I wasn't supposed to let you break me.
But, in the end,
I let my strength and stern disposition escape me.

Year after year,
My "set" standards dwindled
Like a candle left burning overnight.
Then suddenly I got hit with a cruel reality,
I lacked my original level of fight.
Too strained to keep up my "strong woman" persona,
And too worn to emit my radiance of might.

Becoming accustomed to affliction,
Turmoil became the new norm.
The hopeful spiritual prayers were still present.
But in the physical, I was still worn.

"I would never let that happen to me"—
Said by every woman known to mankind.
But, what happens when you wake up,
And realize you did the opposite of what you once chimed?

Life is ironic that way.
Sometimes I find myself sitting back to laugh.
Wishful thinking I suppose.
Gotta be more careful than that (ha).

Don't get me wrong.
Strong Woman,
I AM SHE.
But,
Strength doesn't equal invincibility.
Acknowledging the presence of imperfection,
Is one strength many do not see.

It is okay to breathe Strong Woman.
It is okay to step back Strong Woman.
It is okay to regroup Strong Woman.
It is okay to not react Strong Woman.
It is okay to repose Strong Woman.
It is okay to relax Strong Woman.

Strong Woman: I AM SHE.
