Chapter 1: First Encounter at Shui Jing

I pinched the boundary of freshwater indigo, but it was just as elastic as it was before, it was even more slippery than the skin of a grape, but despite how much I hack at it with a knife, or roast it with fire, it doesn't break. I heard that the previous Flower Deity arranged it, and think that if this was used to make clothing, it would be both pleasing to the eye and practical.

"Oh! Isn't this Little Tao Tao? It's been ages since I've seen you, it's been ages since I've seen you. We haven't met for such a long time, are you in good health?" Lao Hu suddenly popped out of the ground and inched towards me. That result cannot be considered good.

I covered my mouth, and my heart jumped a few times before settle back to where it was originally. I patted the little old man's gleaming forehead, and reminded him: "We just saw each other earlier this morning."

Lao Hu's little eyes flashed, and the wrinkles on his entire face scrunched together: "Is Tao Tao laughing at me because I am getting old, and my memory is not working well?"

"Uh-huh." I honestly nodded my head.

"Tao Tao is still like how she was before, wounding other's feelings. I feel very relieved, feel very relieved." The little old man shook his head absentmindedly, "That reminds me, where is Tao Tao going?"

"I heard that it is very interesting outside of the Flower World. I want to go look a little."

"Tao Tao wants to ask the Eldest Flower Lady to release you from these boundaries?" Lao Hu was suddenly very surprised.

I looked past the boundary of Shui Jing, separated from me by a sea of flowers, hoping that there wound be one or two flying bug demons passing by who could put in a request to the Eldest Flower Lady for me. I felt that Lao Hu was very noisy.

"Aiyaya, Little Tao Tao is really acting crazy right now. The outside world is not interesting, and is really quite dangerous, really quite dangerous. Fruit fairies and fruit immortals like us are scarce. If we go out, we will be eaten."

Lao Hu is a carrot who had been made into an immortal. He was obviously a vegetable, but always likes to pretend to be a fruit, and is very proud of it. It's said that there are very few immortality-seeking fruit and vegetable fairies in this world, and this happens to be the beautiful flower immortals' Flower World, so we are exceptions. At least Lao Hu has already become an immortal, but I've been studying for four thousand years and am still a fairy. I haven't even become an immortal, so I am unavoidably disconsolate. Besides Lao Hu and I, there are a few other good-for-nothing flower fairies in Shui Jing.

This Shui Jing has a strong boundary so that the people outside cannot enter, which was fashioned by the previous Flower Deity to protect us frail fairies. But I feel that this is really illogical, if a door cannot be pushed open then perhaps it would be able to be pulled open. At least one side should be able to open, but if it can be neither pushed nor pulled open, then doesn't it just become a wall? This boundary is like that, it not only keeps outsiders from entering, but also prevents us fairies from exiting Shui Ling. It is very strange. The Eldest Flower Lady comes to look around Shui Ling every year, and sighs deeply every time she sees the progress I've made with my magic. She said to me that perhaps if I have studied enough to become an immortal after ten thousand years, and am able to protect myself, she will allow me to leave the boundaries of Shui Jing.

But I do not have the patience to wait another six thousand years.

"You have never experienced how frightening the outside world is. When I was still young, I bumped into a rabbit with a pair of blood-red eyes. It opened its mouth and bared its fangs, wanting to bite me. If I hadn't dug so many holes and conveniently jumped into one, I would have become bits and pieces already, how could I have lived until today? Look, look, this is the scar that the rabbit left when it bit me!"
