"Why were you trying to do that Avalon?" asked Sam.
"Do what?" I said, pretending not to know what he was talking about. The last thing I wanted to do was to discuss my reasons for doing things. My brain is too complicated for this kid.
"You know what I mean," he said, as we entered our village, "slay a you-know-what!"
"I have my reasons," I replied, and he knew not to press further on the topic. Why did I do it anyways? It just seemed like something I had to. To 'prove' myself. I can't explain it, but it just seemed like something compulsory. Get me some glory in this tiny, lifeless village.
"Hey Av!" Cried a familiar voice from across the village square. Well, nearly lifeless village, apart from Adrian.
"Hiya Adrian. How ya doin?" I asked him casually.
"Well," he started, giving me his familiar sheepish grin that always makes me blush, "I'm fine but between you and me the old man could've been better."
"The old man? What did you do to him this time?" I teased. The old man was just a nickname we gave Adrian's father a long time ago. We've known each other for as long as I can remember and if there's one thing I've learned, is that Adrian's a natural born prankster.
"Why do you always think it was because of me? That hurts." he said, putting his hand over his heart as if I had insulted him. I raised my eyebrows which always makes him confess. "Okay fine, you caught me! Did the old bucket-of-water-over-the-door trick. Works every time."
"Wow. That's original." I said sarcastically,"Can't you give your dad a break for once?"
"No. Besides, he doesn't mind." We started walking forward. "So where are you guys off to?"
You guys? Oh yeah! I totally forgot Sam was still with us. That's the kind of think that happens to me when I'm around Adrian. I don't have a crush on him exactly, but my brain goes awkward and blank.
"Just home. You?"
"Same. See you later than Avalon! And Sam!" He yelled back as he started walking away.
"Wow, he must really like you." said Sam.
"What?!" I said, surprised. "What makes you think that?"
"Well I guess it's just the way he talks ti you. And looks at you. And the way he sorta blushes when you tease him." he replied shyly.
"yea sure," I replied, rolling my eyes, "besides, your too young for all this gossip."
