"Thanks for walking me home." I said to Adrian as we walked along the path to our barn.
"No prob. It was my pleasure." he said. We walked in silence for a long time. Finally, he decided to break it. "What happened to your parents?"
"I - I" I stuttered. It was too hard to say. A lump started forming in my throat. I felt my face burning.
"I'm sorry," Adrian said quickly, "you don't have to answer if you don't want to."
"No that's okay. I'll tell you." I replied.
He looked at me expectantly so I started.
"Six years ago, when I was ten years old, the thought of dragons always has amazed me. I was fascinated by the winged lizards and the ancient stories surrounding them. My mother and father have always told me tales of their dyeing adventures in the great migration. I was amazed. Astonished. I thought that I, a small girl of six could possibly be, just like my parents, a dragon slayer. My brother Sam was never fond of the great migration though. He hated anything to do with killing anything. I however was waiting for the day I would turn sixteen, the day I would be able to enter the grate migration. Until that fateful day. I was pretending to be asleep one day, but really I was eavesdropping on my parents, as the next morning would be the day of the great migration. After hours I finally fell asleep. Suddenly I was woken up by my father in the middle of the night. He said a lot of things, but the one thing that stuck to me the most was when he said to never trust Damian."
"Damian? You mean Damian Gladvaria? The minister?" asked Adrian surprised.
"Yes, I'm pretty sure he meant him. After that, he told me to go back to bed. He said I needed to take care of my brother and that he loves me," at this point, my voice was shaking with sobs but I continued, "he said he'd be back soon. But he never came back. That was the last time I saw him Adrian! And now I have to pay 400 relids of tax to the Gladvarian government! And I don't know what to do Adrian!"
Suddenly he pulled me into a tight hug. He was so warm and we stood there embraced until I stoped crying. When I finally calmed down, I lifted my head and Adrian smiled shyly at me.
"Hey," he said softly, "everything's going to be fine."
I nodded, not sure what to say. He lifted my chin slightly and I looked into his eyes. I saw the reflection of the same pain I have felt in my childhood. I felt so safe in his arms. And, as if naturally, we both moved in and I pressed my lips against his. Funny, I've know him for so long but now I it's like I found a whole new thing about him. His lips are so sweet, and it fills me with warmth. He didn't pull away, and I didn't want to. After what felt like forever, we finally broke apart. Then he sort of give me a half smile. I returned it.
"Well, I'll see you soon Av." he said softly.
"Yeah okay bye." I whispered.
"Bye." I watched his retreating figure as he walked off before I went back inside.
