Tharn

Thirteen years ago, Island of Ko Miang

"This is against all the rules you set Father! This pup is a rogue! We should have left him dead in that camp. He is not one of us. He is not a Kirigun! He will never be one!" I am ranging in anger while Father is acting deaf on my outburst. He holds the wounded pup firmly as we hurried to our Gondola.

Today was suppose to be full of excitement. After manifesting my second gender a week after my eleventh birthday, Father decided to bring me on the patrol and thus commencing my first official hunt. However, the pleasure of running the entire Siam and chasing buffalos suddenly was put into halt when I boarded the Gondola and we sail south towards the remote islands of Similan, to Ko Miang, the island infested by rogues.

As my anger keeps on raging, Father disregarded everyone's opinions. Uncle San who came with us was also kept silent as Father is determined to bring the rogue aboard. I have to do something! This is both unacceptable and nonsense!

"Father please, reconsider. I know that the Kiriguns are known for keeping pups that were lost or abandoned. But this one Father, this one is a rogue!"

"He still is a pup, Tharn. The misconduct of his parents is not his. He needs to have a chance."

"By breaking the rules and law you yourself helped set up? The Kiriguns' empathy applies to everyone. Everyone except rogues!"

"And this pup is---"

"A rogue! A son of a rogue, living in a camp of rogues. This pup is not allowed of the Kirigun's empathy Father."

"He's an omega."

I was momentarily silenced by Father's statement. A sudden rush of excitement filled me, making me warm inside, forgetting for a while that the pup was a rogue and focused on that single, most beautiful word. Omega.

Omegas became the rarest second gender after The Great War. Hundred eighty-six years ago, the rouges infesting the southern part of Siam started a warfare against the Siam's wolf packs. Rogues refuse the packs' system and continue their barbaric way of living. Disregarding economy and defense, they push and rely on their instinct and refuse to evolve and furnish their humanity. The rogues continue living depending to their instincts and wolf, opposing the treaty made by the wolf packs to ensure peace and longevity. The packs believed that if wolves start behaving more human, they can push forward greater, in advancement and prosperity, than relying terribly on their instincts. Rogues however believe that being more humane erases their identity. They believe succumbing to the new way of life will make the wolves forget who they really are. So they continue living away from the packs, making their own alliance, running against the current.

Despite the indifference, rogues and packs continue to co-exist. Until the death of one of the rogue leaders who was caught in between the Siamese-Vietnamese war which was being joined by wolf packs who entered the army. The rogue leader was doing his daily runs in the Khao Luang Peak when a group of Siamese pack wolves battles with the Vietnamese in Nakhon Si Thammarat. As Siamese wolf packs retreat to the forest of Khao Luang, the rogue leader was hit by an astray bullet fired by either of the forces. The rogue leader was in his wolf form when he was shot, a more fatal injury for wolves than the ones wounded on human form. The rogue leader died right after which had started the Great War. While facing against the Vietnamese, the Siamese wolf packs also defends against the rogues who are hell-bent to avenge one of their own.

As the war against the Vietnamese comes to an end, the wolf packs are facing far greater threats against the rogues. It's when the rogues started killing omegas, the wolf's lifeline. Pack after pack, the rogues selectively kills the pack's omega, making a lot of packs to go extinct. Aside from the Kiriguns, there are only four wolf packs remaining. The Kirigun Clan however might face our end soon. Eleven years ago, right after the pack heard my first cry, a sharp knife stab my mother after she had given birth to me. Apparently, the doctor the Kiriguns kept for almost a decade was a rogue spy, waiting for the perfect time to attack the last remaining omega in our clan. My mother whom I was never given the chance to met died in the hands of a rogue.
