A Kings Ransom

Chapter 1

The year was 1527. 

I was walking through the corridor to go outside with the younger children when a guard stopped me and told me I was being summoned to the throne room.

"I beg your pardon young sir but the king hath requested your presence in the throne room. I shall escort you at once." 

"Please you needn't call him king to me... " I sigh as I turn around and walk to the throne room.

 As I walk in I see that "the King" is sitting on his throne with a young couple on their knees a few feet in front of him.

"Please m' liege. I beg of you she is just a girl. Anything but her please." the man pleads as the woman cries into her shall.

"She is a very promising young girl. At just 11 years old she could give many ladies a hard time, I am doing you a favor by buying her, she will bring you nothing but trouble if left without proper care and instruction. You shall both be compensated handsomely, say a new house? One with more land than you could both know what to do with?" 

"PLEASE DON'T TAKE MY DAUGHTER FROM US M' LIEGE!!!" The woman yelled hysterically

"I'm sorry but that is what is going to happen. Guards... Take them out of my sight." Two guards that looked unhappy grabbed the couple and dragged them out and away from the room.

"It took you long enough to get here. why was he not brought here when I asked?"

"My humblest apologies... I couldn't find him at first... The second I found him I brought him." the guard behind me kneeled and bowed his head

"Very well."

"My son... Why must you always cause such trouble?"

"Well, father I wanted to go outside with the younger kids and play. I finished my studies early so I went back to my room and put my play clothes on." I walked closer to him 

"Well, you can play later. Right now I need you to come with me to meet someone very special." He rose and walked out of the room, I just nodded and followed him outside to the courtyard where there were a bunch of kids running around.

The first thing I noticed was this one girl running around. She was wearing a simple blue dress and had beautiful red and blue ribbons in her long brown hair. She was beautiful. She had the brightest smile and the most adorable laugh and her eyes sparkled in the sun.

"KALI!!" My father shouted bringing me out of my trance as the girl ran over to us.

"Hello my liege." She curtsied 

"Kali this is my son, Prince Jimin. You are to help him with anything he might need."

"What?" I asked confused

"If I may sir why would I be the best choice for that and not a boy?" she played with her fingers in front of her shyly

"Because I said so. You must learn how to serve a man and learning whilst my son learns how to treat a woman is the best option. You will both grow and learn as to how certain needs change for both parties. It will be good for the marriage." he nodded

"Marriage?!" both Kali and I exclaimed

"Not to each other good lord. I mean to people of your own equality. You will both marry someone who is of your... stature." he glanced at Kali than walked away

"You will both stay side by side from now on. Kali don't disappoint me." he said as he turned the corner.

"Um.... do you know where my mommy and daddy are?" I felt a light tug on my sleeve so I turned and saw her frowning as she spoke.

"They aren't coming back. You live here now." I felt a knot in my stomach as I spoke those words to her.

"Why? What did I do wrong?" she started to tear up

"Hey don't cry... Don't worry you didn't do anything wrong, they just wanted you to have a really fun life with lots of toys and a nice big room and lots of friends. I'm sure you can see them soon." I smiled at her

"Promise?" she stuck out her pinky finger

"Promise" I grasped her pinky in miner and smiled 

"So do you need anything right now?" she asked tilting her head slightly to the side

"I just wanna play. Tag you're it!!" I shouted as I ran after tapping her arm.

And that was the moment I knew my life would forever be changed.
