𝐈 𝐏𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐂 of my coat closer to me trying to get any warmth I could possibly conjure on this freezing night.

It was currently four in the morning and I stood outside on the small basketball court that was a block away from my residence.

Far enough that my mother wouldn't catch us but not too far that I could run back home in case anything happened.

Hopefully, nothing goes wrong for me to resort to that option;  I hated any sort of physical activity that resulted in me trying to catch my breath.

The cold night's breeze blew across my face causing me to shiver more if that was even possible. The dimly lit street lamp flickered off leaving us in the dark.

I pulled my phone out of my coat's pocket turning on the flashlight in an attempt to provide some brightness. Lia and James followed suit.

"What do we have to discuss that is so important that can't wait for the morning," I asked breaking the silence when we formed a small circle.

Dianne huffed in agreement and sent a pointed look in James' direction.

"The world is going to end. We had dreams about dead people telling us about it." James started. "They must be warning us. God knows we might be the only people that get these dreams."

"Maybeeee— What if we get these dreams because God is trying to save us." Dianne chimed in. I noticed a cross pendant hanging from her neck, hinting at her faith.

"Trust me God ain't gonna save me," Nolan said chuckling beside me.

I stared at him asking, "And why is that?"

"I've been to jail more times than you could count, sweetheart" was his response  I took a not-so-subtle step away from him earning a few laughs.

"What if the world is really going to end and we are its best chance," James said after the laughter died down.

I rolled my eyes retorting," Why don't we just tell the authorities or something? I mean who are we to save the world."

Lia huffed, "Listen. I honestly don't care if this messed-up world ends but I'm still here in case there is a tiny percent it could happen and I could help stop it. What if we do go to the authorities? They will just laugh in our faces and call us crazy teenagers strung up on too many drugs."

"Thank you Lia" James exclaimed.  She did have a point that I stubbornly didn't want to acknowledge. I rolled my eyes huffing making Lia sent a sympathetic look my way.

"Going to the authorities it's canceled. What's next?" I asked.

James took a deep breath, glancing around our small circle. "We need to figure out what these dreams mean and why we're having them. There must be a connection, something we're missing."
