You sighed silently to yourself as you gently tapped your heel against the concrete of the sidewalk below you. Currently, you were waiting for your sister to come downstairs so that the two of you could get started with work. However, it was very hard for you to stand out in the open by yourself — especially since Jin was not too far from you, chatting up some girls that he hung out with as he always had been for the past years ever since the...'incident.'
You sighed once again and moved a strand of hair out of your face and bit your bottom lip to keep yourself from crying. People could call you a crybaby all they wanted, but you couldn't help it; the memory of Jin basically betraying you and your guys' friendship stung too much.
But, of course, it probably didn't affect Jin as much as it affected you. Ever since that day, he had been hanging out with those 'popular' kids more and practically ignored your very existence. Sure, the two of you would lock eyes every now and then when you and Yí would head out for work, but that was it. You would always run off before he could do or even say anything.
"Hey! Sorry I took so long," Yí's voice quickly brought you back to reality and you jumped in your place and blinked; clearing your blurry vision as you chuckled nervously and turned to your twin; rubbing your hand up and down your arm out of habit. "Oh, it's okay, sis." You smiled.
Yí smiled as well and nodded at you, putting the sunglasses that she always brought with her for some reason up. "Well, ready to head out?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips.
You grinned and nodded. "Of course."
* * * * *
Today had been truly tiring, indeed.
Between babysitting both dogs and children, and having to take out the trash for a restaurant and ending up getting it dumped on top of you so you smelled like it, you'd have to say that you ans Yí were pretty tuckered out — and it showed.
As you tiredly walked across the crosswalk behind Yí, you couldn't help but groan and rub your tired eyes. Yí chuckled in front of you and took your hand to pull you along. She didn't want you to end up stumbling over and falling on your face, after all.
"He breaks left. He breaks right. He's going in for the dunk!"
You stopped in your tracks and cringed slightly whenever the empty trashcan fell atop of Peng — Jin's cousin — after he threw his basketball inside of it.
"Oh, Peng, are you okay?" you crouched down and lifted the empty bin off of the boy, who grinned as soon as he saw that it was you. "(Y/n)!" he picked his basketball up and stood back up as you began to walk into the building after Yí.
"(Y/n)! Come shoot hoops with me, just like old times! Please?" the frowned guiltily at the hopeful look you saw in his eyes when you turned around, and bit your bottom lip as you looked away.
"Ah, sorry Peng, but...me and Yí have been working all day and I'm kind of tired, so..." You looked back up and nearly flinched when you saw the crestfallen look on his face, when your eyes landed on some other kids walking together on the sidewalk behind him.
"Oh, I know!" you smiled and grabbed Peng by his shoulders before turning him around so that he could see the other kids. "Why don't you play with them?"
Peng frowned and turned to speak with you, only to find that you had already followed Yí back into the apartment complex you lived in. "Those kids are too little!" Peng called after you, beginning to follow you up the steps. "And some of them are freakishly good!" he added, his voice almost as low as a whisper.
You chuckled slightly at the expression he made and shook your head. "Well, sorry, Peng, but—"
"Come on, (Y/n)!" Peng suddenly ran around you and Yí and stopped in front of the two of you, dribbling his basketball. "You and Yí never play with me anymore!"
You opened your mouth to speak, but got cut off by a loud groan coming from your twin. "Peng," Yí blew a strand of hair out of her face, "we've been busy all day." She said tiredly.
That was when the sound of a door opening was heard.
You tensed almost instantly and quickly ran past your sister and Peng, who watched you run up the stairs in pity before facing eachother again.
"If you want to play with someone," Yí looked over to the teenager talking on his phone and scrunched her nose up in anger, "ask your cousin."
"Yeah, yeah, I'll pick you up tomorrow." Jin smirked and held his phone up to his ear with his shoulder as he took his apartment's key out and locked the door behind him. "Light show starts at 8:00. Uh, bye-bye."
With the call finished, Jin grabbed his phone and slipped it back into his pocket as Yí rolled her eyes at him and began to make her way up the stairs. Peng rolled his eyes as well, but it was more in a teasing manner.
"As usual," the boy began, "he's got a date."
Yí chuckled in amusement as Peng made kissy noises and hugged himself, pretending that he was making out with someone. But, then, as Jin began to make his way down the hall, Peng stopped and his eyes lit up.
"Wait, wait. Yí, watch."
Looking over her shoulder, Yí smiled as she watched Peng hide behind the wall and watch his older cousin's movements.
"Here we go. Three—" Jin took a step forward, "—two—" and then held his arm out to readjust his sleeve, "—one!" before stopping in front of a mirror in the hallway and looking at his reflection.
"Stop and check!"
Peng and Yí laughed and Yí shook her head, continuing her way up the stairs.
However, the ravenette's good mood was soon soured when she heard the voice of the boy who broke her sister's heart speak up.
"Hey, Yí," Jin smirked and began to run his hands through his hair, "you know I can smell you from all the way over here, right?" he asked rather smugly.
Yí scoffed and chuckled bitterly. "Like you can talk. I'm sorry, is there any aftershave left, or did you use the whole bottle?"
"Why?" Jin walked away from the mirror and looked up at her, taking his phone out. "You hoping to borrow some? Oof, not sure it'll help."
Yí rolled her eyes and chuckled emptily. "Very funny."
"You guys wanna work out some of this tension on the court?" Peng asked hopefully, dribbling his basketball between his hands.
Yí snorted. "Forget it, Peng. We wouldn't want to mess up Jin's hair," she said, rolling her eyes.
"And the new kicks. No basketball for these babies," Jin added, taking a picture of his shoes and posting them on social media. "Another time, okay cuz?"
Peng huffed and pushed himself up from the floor, seeing as how he had slipped and fallen on it just now. "That's what you always say," the younger boy pointed out, but Jin didn't seem to be paying attention. Why? Because he was on his phone, as always.
"48 likes. Sweet!" Jin began to make his way down the stairs, but suddenly came to a stop and looked up. Peng, now standing again with his basketball ball in his grasp, quirked a brow at his older cousin in confusion and followed his eyes, only to frown sympathetically when he saw a familiar pair of (E/c) orbs staring down at them.
Ah, but of course, those eyes were gone as soon as they came, and Jin sighed before continuing his way down the steps, though he didn't seem to be as happy as he was before.
Peng sighed as well and looked down at the basketball in his hands.
"Why won't they just talk?" the boy whispered, a sad look on his face.
He didn't recieve an answer.
