"Have fun today, Percy!" Sally Jackson called to her son as he walked out of their apartment.
Yeah, right. It was Percy's first day of high school. Today would be anything BUT fun.
After walking 6 blocks, Percy finally arrived at Halfblood High School. No one really knew why it had such a weird name, but no one bothered to ask.
As Percy walked through the crowded halls, he kept his eyes out for one person in particular.
When he walked into his first class, Algebra, he spotted a flash of curly blonde hair stuffed under a Yankees cap.
Percy's heart stopped. He'd had a crush on Annabeth Chase for as long as he could remember. She always tried to downplay her beauty and dressed in baggy t-shirts and jeans. But Percy couldn't help but notice her.
It's now or never, he thought to himself. He set his backpack down by the empty seat next to Annabeth.
"Uh, hey, Annabeth," Percy stammered.
Annabeth looked up from her sketchbook. Her stormy gray eyes met Percy's sea green ones.
"Hey, Percy," she smiled. "How was your summer?"
Percy didn't know what to say. He didn't think he would get this far. "Well- uh, I spent a lot of time at the beach with my mom."
Annabeth nodded, her curls bouncing around her face. "That's cool. I went to the Hoover Dam. Here, I drew a picture."
She turned her sketchbook around, revealing a beautiful sketch of the Hoover Dam.
"Wow," Percy breathed. "Annabeth, that's amazing!" Annabeth blushed, shyly tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Thanks," she said. "I want to be an architect one day. That's my dream."
Percy beamed. "Well, I think you'd-"
The bell rang, and the class immediately silenced. Percy sighed and shifted to face the front of the classroom.
At least high school was off to a good start.
