“You have a crush on him, don’t you?”
I shot Emma a weird look as we made a right turn, “Who?”
“Dante,” She shrugged nonchalantly, “Who else?”
I nearly choked on my saliva, “What?”
“The volleyball girls talk,” Emma’s voice seemed to grow hushed at that phrase, “Apparently you guys spent yesterday after school together and you were watching his training the day before that,” She paused to take in a breath, “I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me you were hanging out with him today after school.”
My face paled a little as I gulped.
Emma took one look at me, “No way in hell… Oh my god Kat. You do have a crush on him!”
“I seriously don’t,” I managed to control my blush, “He was nicer than I thought, but still a big bully.”
Everything I had just said was true. I didn’t have a crush on him. At least I don’t think I do. Despite his niceness, he was still my brother’s bully. And I still have to kill him.
Emma ignored everything I just said, “It’s going to be like Romeo and Juliet. A forbidden Romance. A tra-” She cut off mid-sentence at the sight in front of her.
Frowning, I kept my eyes trained forwards and saw some people on the girl’s volleyball team advancing towards us. They came to a stop a couple feet away from us.
“Emma, nice to finally see you. It’s been so long!” Sofia Sanchez, the deputy captain, shot her a glamorous smile, “And Katerina right?” I nodded, “You look so gorgeous! With your curves and all that!”
I was taken aback by the comment. Curves? I resisted the urge to look down at myself. I mean, I wasn’t skinny, but I wasn’t curvy either.
“Um…” I began awkwardly, “Look who’s talking!” I managed to pull in a save.
I wasn’t exactly lying. Sofia Sanchez was a bit on a thick side, though she had gorgeous curves. She was one of those extremely voluptuous girls all the guys love, like a toned down version of Kim Kardashian, but with less plastic. Oddly enough, most of the volleyball team actually doned that physique except for maybe Emma, who was more on the skinny side. It was more like an athletic curvy build, if it makes any sense.
“Aw, you’re too sweet,” Sofia’s eyes sparkled, “Isn’t she?” She turned her head around at the girls.
A chorus of “yeahs” echoed in unison and I could instantly feel myself going even redder.
“Well, we should get going now,” The volleyball deputy captain shot me one more smile, “See you guys around,” She sauntered away with a couple of the girls catching up beside her.
“She’s nice,” I commented, turning to Kat as we began walking again.
“Yeah. Sure,” Emma looked away as we took a left turn.
Frowning, I was going to point out her lack of enthusiasm when I realized we had reached our destination. The drama studio.
“We’re there,” I opened the door, allowing Emma to enter first.
Once I stepped into the room, I was engulfed in darkness. Black curtains were drawn with black wallpaper everywhere. The only light came from a single lightbulb dangling from the middle of the room. My brother was there, removing his socks, whilst his friends chattered away. They all let out a laugh at something his red haired friend Owen said. I smiled at how happy he looked here unlike at home.
