So, you want to be a writer, huh?
Well, that's great! You're going to go on an app, most likely Wattpad, pour your heart and soul into a story--fanfiction or not--and as soon as you post the first chapter it'll be a hit! You'll gain instant fame overnight, right?
If that's what you're thinking you're due for a fucking reality check, my good bitch.
Because unless you're some super famous Tik Tok star or some shit like that, you ain't gonna get that instant fame you're looking for. Sorry.
However, with time, effort, and a whole bunch of other ill shit you'll gain a decent following, a shit ton of reads, and (if you're lucky like myself) a cult.
Now, before we begin, let me give you some pre-tips on reading and writing on Wattpad.
00| VOTE, READ, AND COMMENT
I know what you're thinking, because I'm M A G I C. "Cricket, how will this help us cultivate a following and bring awareness to our stories?"
Well, buckle up you little shits because I'm about to tell you why. For one, reading is a very important part of being an author--it's how we learn, subconsciously, of course. When we see how other successful author's format their sentences, word choices, etc. we're subconsciously storing that into our brain and using it for later. It's how we learn and grow not only as readers but as writer's, as well.
Voting.
Let me tell you, you'll always have more reads than you do votes, this is just a well-known fact. Some readers, the silent kind, don't see the importance of voting on story chapters. Well, if you're a reader, let me tell you--it's pretty fucking important, my dude.
Not only is it like a source of validation for the author, but it's also how most books are made 'famous' does that make sense? If you saw a book with ten reads and three votes, chances are, you won't read it over a book with a million reads and forty-thousand votes, right?
Comments!
For the love of god, comment! Engage! Socialize! Fuck your social anxiety (I have it too) this is Wattpad nobody can see you, my good bitch. Engaging with other author's and readers is how you not only make friends, but get advice, build bonds and trust between writer and reader. I would not be where I am today without a good chunk of my friends on here (most of which who started out as my readers!)
00| DON'T PLAGIARIZE (ONLY PUSSIES PLAGIARIZE)
Please, for the love of all things good and gay, don't fucking plagiarize. It's tacky. Only pussies plagiarize, remember that. Not only is it the worst thing you can do as an author, it's illegal.
Now, there IS a difference between plagiarism and similarities.
Plagiarism is copying something word for word, even if you change character names, ages, or genders. There's not getting around it.
Similarity generally stems from things, plot-wise. 9/10 Your story won't be as 'original and purely your own' as you want it. You know all those Alpha and Omega stories, they ALL have lot of similarities (especially the fanfic bnha one's *shudder). But there's a difference between that and plagiarism.
Okay?
Okay.
Remember! Whose plagiarizes? Pussies. Pussies plagiarize.
00| DON'T GIVE UP AND ACCEPT HELP FROM OTHERS
This one is easier said than done, I know from experience.
I've almost given up so many fucking times throughout this past year, it's not even funny at this point. It's hard. Really hard. Sometimes you feel inadequate and less than, and sometimes you bury yourself so deep inside a rabbit hole of nothingness that all hope seems lost. But it's not. While it may seem dark and dreary not, ESPECIALLY when you first start out, just remember there's a bad bitch waiting for you on the other side.
Okay?
And if you find yourself stuck, lacking motivation, or confuddled with whatever writing on here brings you. Ask your fellow author's for help. (*wink wink, nudge nudge* my PM's are always open).
Uhm. These are the important pre-tips I have before we begin! Good luck young author, I truly hope (from the bottom of my bisexual heart) that you make it far and dream big <3
See you hoes later!
