((The next day))
Today is visitation. Not one vein in my body gets excited, if anything, I'd rather die. What if it's really Kevin, but also... on the off chance its my father, do I really want to pull a shank on him? I mean, he left me as a child, but maybe he tracked me down. What would I even say? I know I'd ask why he left, but I know I wouldn't be able to refrain from yelling at him for being a coward. If he had just stuck around, none of this would be happening to me.
The time for visitation fast approaches, my gut feels heavy, I know something bad will happen, it's almost inevitable at this point. "Inmate Faith, follow me for visitation." This is it, I follow Officer Fletcher down the long corridor, towards the metal gate into a room full of barred windows and laid out tables, nothing but prisoners in grey seeing their dear loved ones. I walked over to the Officer in charge, I don't see him around often, his name tag says 'Officer Bilson' he holds a clipboard full of names and numbers.
"Table 5." He points to a table with a number 5 painted on it. I sit down, an empty chair opposite me, the room feels hauntingly empty despite the amount of prisoners and families present. I wait, and wait, time ticks by. Each minute that passes fills me with dread, then I see him. Kevin. He takes the chair opposite me and glares.
"Hello there missy. How is prison treatin ya?" His dark voice makes my veins rattle, my blood boil.
"What the fuck Kevin?" My eyes shooting daggers at him, he only smirks back.
"Admit it, you did it."
"Liar."
"I know you did Camila, why don't you just..." He leans over the table, "Admit it." His darkness turns to a whisper from the devil.
"Because it wasn't me." I feel my body tense up.
"What happened to lil ol quiet confessing Camila?" He starts to laugh, it's a haunting kind of laugh, as if mocking my stone cold attitude.
"She died, along with her dignity, the night you stole her life. You utter bitch of a man." Squinting, flustered, I keep my tone to a minimum.
"You know what I'm like, but you stayed. You could've ran away, let me and your mum live in peace, but you always, always, got in the goddamn WAY!" He begins to raise his voice, teeth gritted, eyes blazing. I've had enough, I slap the table hard as ever, and whip out the weapon from my trousers, I hold the weapon to his throat and whisper,
"I will fucking end your life, like you ended my mothers. Only you... will go to hell."
"INMATE!" I quickly hide the weapon. Kevin has no marks, no visible wounds, I did exactly as Yazz said. Kevin is laid on the floor dark eyed, smirking, as an officer lifts him. Another officer points to the door before walking in front of me. "To the box Inmate." I comply, remembering the brick, I swiftly hide my weapon and then take a turn to see if anyone noticed. Thankfully, no one noticed.
I was pushed into a dark cell, barred doors, a blanket-less bed, no window in sight and a steel toilet in the corner. "Do you comply to a search for contraband?" I nod before spreading my legs and arms. The male officer pats up my legs, up my torso, and down each arms. "Nothing."
"I grabbed his top. I have no contraband."
"Shut up inmate. Do you comply to a strip search conducted by a female officer?"
"Yes." I agree, he signals Officer McDonaldson into the cell, he leaves while she conducts the search.
"CLEAR." She yells. The male officer returns,
"Ok inmate, let's get you back to your bunk. Next time I suggest not leaning over the table for any means of contact, or your stay in the box won't be so short." I nod in agreement,
"Yes sir."
Once back at my bunk I notice Yazz and Indah smiling. Linda and Tammy have their thumbs up. I run over to them laughing, but wanting to cry. Yazz pulls me in for a cuddle as I sit on her lap.
"The brick trick works?" She asks, tightening her hug.
"Yes, very well! How did you ever come up with that?"
"When Indah needed an escape from going to the box, she wanted to be prepared when her ex sent a hitman disguised as a friendly guy to visit her. She managed to scare a hitman... without hurting him at all, but of course she needed to get out of a three month stay in the box, so Linda, Tammy and I got busy."
"Honestly Yazz even to this day I thank you." Indah looks proud.
"I was the brains." Tammy laughs.
"I was the look out." Linda chuckles.
"And I got to destroy a brick." Yazz giggles.
I liked being part of Yazz's crew, especially with how close Yazz and I are. Like two peas. Without their amazing brick trick I would be screwed.
