Edward, my best friend, was leaving me. Again. Of course I'm used to this by now, but I wanted to cry. I promised Edward I would only ever cry happy tears, and I intended to keep my promise.
"Hurry up," the engineer shouted out of the window, "we've got places to be!"
"Er, sorry sir," I yelled back, " we'll only be a few more moments. Sorry!"
"Well, I guess this is it then, Winry," Edward started. His mouth opened and closed like a fish. He's never been good at goodbyes.
I could tell he had something he wanted to say, though I'm not exactly sure what he was cooking up in that mind of his this time. I took his hand. "Hurry up, dork. The train's gonna leave." I nodded towards the track.
"Yeah.." he hesitated. He turned to the train, probably contemplating whether he should just run away like he always does. But something was keeping him.
This hopeless idiot was just standing there fidgeting with his pocket. But then he took a deep breath, and he spoke. "Winry, I-" he hesitated and his cheeks turned bright red. What was this idiot trying to say?
"What?" I asked, trying to get him to just say what he was trying to say. "You know, you could just say words."
"Erm, ok, well-" he took another deep breath, and somehow, he blushed harder. "Winry, I'm sorry. For, everything. Leaving, brushing you aside, I had to go and try to bring back mom. As if you weren't enough. That was so wrong of me. I know I've hurt you so many times, and I want to make up. You are my best friend, Winry. In fact," he started kneeling down, and he pulled a small black box out of his pocket. My heart felt like it was going to explode. "You're more than just a friend. Winry Rockbell, I want you to be my wife." And just when I thought he had it all worked out, this idiot blushed, and said, "er, well, that is, if-if you want to. I m-mean, you don't have to. You are independent a-and can make your-" but before he could finish, and before I could think about what I was doing, I leaned over, and my lips were on his. I smiled against the kiss. "Yes. I'll marry you, dork."
-
"And that is how your father proposed to me. Now it's time for bed. No more stories tonight"
"Aww, mom! I'm not tired though!" the boy whined. Then he yawned.
"Yeahh! Tell another story! Pleeeease?" the girl pleaded.
"No more." Winry switched off the light, and the two children promptly fell asleep.
