It was an ordinary day for Izuku. Or, it was supposed to be. But, as soon as Izuku got out of his bed, he noticed something extremely wrong. His forearms, neck, back, and lower legs were covered with shiny green-blue scales. On those scaly areas, he had fins. His ears seemed to have been replaced by fins as well, with only tiny holes in front of said fins to allow him to hear. He had a set of gils on the sides of his neck, although they were currently closed. He had a large, scaly tail coming out of his lower back, with many fins that seemed to be decorative rather than helpful. He had webbed hands, with webbed feet to match them.
Izuku couldn't help but compare himself to some sort of sea monster.
This had to be his quirk. It was the only logical explaination our 5 year old Izuku could come up with.
Doing the only thing he could think to do, he ran. He ran as fast as he could, right to the ocean. The salt water seemed so very appealling. He stepped into it, hoping that he wasn't actually some sort of freshwater creature.
He only felt more drawn to it with every step, which told him that he likely was a saltwater creature.
Izuku didn't even feel scared as a giant wave crashed into him, pulling the 5 year old into the ocean. Once he was fully underwater, his gils had opened up in an instant, and a flap of skin he didn't have before closed up his nostrils.
Looking back on it over 9 years later, Izuku couldn't recall why ran away, but he certaintly didn't regret it.
He swam around in the water freely, chirping happily.
While he could speak, his quirk made it so that he could make strange sounds. Such sounds included a multitude of chirps, and shrill sounding hums. He prefered using those sounds rather than words, as it didn't matter what he said. He couldn't understand the fish, and they couldn't understand him. But his chirps and shrill sounds displayed emotions rather than words.
He used his tail to propel himself forward, doing loop-dee-loops in the water. His throat made a shrill sound, similar to laughter. His curly mass of green hair flowing around behind him. The untameable green mess had grown to be quite long over years of not being able to take care of it.
He was lucky that he was occasionally able to find some sharp objects by the shore, which he used to cut his hair. Otherwise, he'd constantly be tangled up in his green mess of hair. Instead, the green curls only fell to his shoulders, though it was hard to tell with how it floated underwater.
It was too bad that he didn't pay attention to the large shadow making its way over him.
Izuku continued swimming, until he found that there was a net falling ontop of him.
Oh no. Fishermen...
Izuku tried to avoid the net, but it was too late. His body was tangled up in it, the rope of the net cutting into his skin. It felt suffocting, despite the fact that the water still filtered through his gills, allowing for him to breath.
He could feel the net lifting him up to the surface, and he couldn't do anything to escape.
This wasn't good. Who knew what would happen to him? They might turn him into some sort of food because he had such a fish like body, or maybe put him in an aquarium, or maybe they'd extirminate him thinking he was a monster.
He didn't like any of those options. Izuku could only hope that this fisherman was nice and would let him go back to the ocean.
His gills closed up as he met the surface, and the flap of skin that had been covering his nostrils opened, forcing him to breath with his lungs. He hadn't come up to the surface much recently, so the feeling was unusual, and yet familiar.
Izuku was dumped onto a boat, and only then did he realize that he was bleeding.
He felt something untangling the net frantically. "Sorry kid, I didn't mean to get you caught up in my net.."
Izuku made a shrill sounding purr, which was supposed to indicate that he didn't mind, but then realized that people usually talked. "I-it's f-fine... I-I sh-should've paid more a-attention..."
His voice sounded unfamiliar, and shaky from not being used.
"Why were you out swimming this far from the shore, anyway?"
"O-oh, I'm a-a sea m-monster of s-sorts... i b-belong out here, i-in the ocean..." Izuku said nevously. That was how he thought of himself. Mainly because there was nothing else he could think of that described him.
He shook his tail free of the net fully, and wrapped it around his body. A wave splashed him slightly, and he made a content chirp.
"C-can y-you put m-me b-back, p-please..?" he asked, looking over to the beautiful blues of the ocean water, that he called home.
The fisherman shook his head, "you may have a mutation quirk, but I'm not throwing a kid into the ocean to live by himself."
Izuku looked at him, surprised, "b-but, I-I've b-been o-out here s-since I was f-five! I-I'm p-perfectly c-capable o-of t-taking care o-of m-myself!!"
"Nope. Did your parents dump you here?"
Izuku looked away, a sad chirp left his mouth at the thought of his mom. "N-no, m-mom d-doesn't e-even know a-about my q-quirk. I-I r-ran a-away when i-it m-manifested.."
The fisherman nodded. "I'm gonna bring you to the police station, then we can find your parents, okay?"
Izuku shook his head, backing over to the railing of the boat. "N-no, I-I d-don't w-wanna... E-everyone w-will b-be scared o-o-of me, a-and th-they'll h-hate me.... I-I'm g-going back i-into th-the o-ocean..."
He pulled himself up onto of the railing, but just as he was about to jump back into the water, he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder.
He was startled by this, and as the fisherman said "no one's gonna be scared of you-" Izuku let out a shrill, ear piercing screach filled with fear. The fisherman removed his hand, to cover his ears, in an attempt to block out his shrill noise.
Noticing this, Izuku cut his scream off, and dived into the water in an instant.
His gills opened up as he hit water, and his skin flap blocked his nostrils up again. He let out a series of chirps, happy to be back underwater.
Izuku was happy as a sea monster. He was ment to be that way. Why else would his quirk make him like this? There was no reason he could think of.
Clearly, he was ment to be a sea monster, and he loved it so very much.
The feeling of the salt water filtering through his gills felt refreshing, much better than breathing on land.
He swam deeper into the ocean, until he couldn't swim any deeper due to it being to dark, cold, and dense for him. He couldn't go past the ocean's Twilight Zone. He looked up, and saw that the boat had left. He chirped again, knowing that he would be staying in his home still.
For a split second, he wondered how his mother was doing without him. For that split second, he missed her. But then he reminded himself that he was a sea monster, and his mom would hate him if she found out.
Izuku distracted himself from his thoughts by blowing bubbles in the water. He chirped excitedly as the bubbles popped, his chirps sounding similar to laughter. He always had a childish fascination for bubbles, especially after learning that he could make them while he was underwater.
Izuku was a sea monster, and he was okay with that. He would live his life as best as he could, as a sea monster. He had been ever since he was 5, and he loved it. That would never change. Ever.

A/N
I did this thing. No, the fisherman wasn't going to do anything creepy, he was just gonna take Izuku to the police station.
