Indianas Eulogy for Aaliyah

I started to walk to the stand with my peice of paper in my right pocket. I got to the stage and looked up at all the people. Everyone was in tears. I bit my lip to hold back the tears, and started to read.

"Life is a gift that we cherish, and Aaliyahs life was certainly cherished. Aaliyah was such a beautiful girl. Her heart was made out of the finest diamonds and her smile could light up an entire room."

It was so hard to continue to read because my eyes were all fogged up from the tears.

"Aaliyah didn't deserve this, no one deserved this. She was so good, kind to everyone she met, With such a beautiful smile. She never stopped smiling either, even when she was being treated, she would crack a joke or two to make Shawn and I smile. And when my mom shaved her head he said she looked like an alien, but I heard her cry that night. So I surprised her the next day." I looked at the people in front of me. "Who remembers that? When the whole Mendes Family shaved their heads?" I continued, "I'm going to miss that little goofball, I think we all will. I think we're all going to leave this room with a little part of ourselves missing, a little spark taken from our eyes. That, that spark was Aaliyah. Aaliyah she,she's now in a better place, a place as beautiful as her."

"Im going to miss you Aaliyah, I love you so, so much. And I always will"

" I promise" I whispered, then walked back to my seat.

1 year later

It's been one year since it all happened, I haven't really left my room in a while. I kind of shut everyone out 3 months ago. Today is January 21st 2012 at 12:41 A.M. and I cant fall asleep. I got out of bed today to take a shower, looking in the mirror I saw a monster. There were bags under my eyes and my skin was pale. I looked as dead as i am inside.

*Knock* knock* "Indie, it's me, I want to talk to you. I miss you." I heard a familiar voice. That voice belonged to my brother, I shut him out with the rest of my family. "Please just open up to me." He continued. "Mom doesn't talk about her either you know. It hurts to much. It hurts us all Indie, not just you" said. It was quiet, I think I heard him start to cry. "I miss her too, and you can't shut us out indie! We promised her." Shawn said. "We promised" he whispered.

I opened the door to a puffy eyed shawn. "Hey shawnsta" I croaked. "Hey ansta" Shawn said with a small smile. We hugged, I missed him so much. "Shawn." Mhm?" "I'm leaving" "What?" "I need a break, a new scenery" "INDIE, we're all hurting, moving wont change it'' "Shawn just please understand-" He cut me off "NO INDIE!! YOU UNDERSTAND ME! YOU ARE LOVED HERE! WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE? YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR PROMISE!" Shawn yelled. "Hope? what hope" Isaid. "Hope in family, that it will be okay, and heal from the pain." Shawn answered. "Hope is just our imagination telling us that the unbelievable can happen, it doesn't exist." I say.

"Then Leave" shawn said quietly. "okay"

That's the day I ran away. I didn't mean what I said, I will never break my promise. I just need a better place to look for hope, and I entend to find it.
