"i'm just saying what we were all thinking"

august 28th
today
my first day of school.
today is my first day of junior year at a new high school, in a new state. with new people. it was 3:47 a.m. i couldn't sleep at all. i was so nervous. i don't know if i'm too nervous or not nervous enough.

i stepped out of bed and rubbed my eyes. i grabbed my phone off of my night stand and got up. i walked to the kitchen and sat on a stool at the island. i sat for a few minutes and just stared. not at anything specifically.

i got up and made myself iced coffee. i also poured myself a bowl of cereal. i'm sure you already know what i decided to watch on my phone because the author has said it like 6 times.

it was now 4:03. i knew it would be a problem finding an outfit so i decided to do it right now. i looked through my closet and drawers at every single piece of clothing i own. i finally chose a basic striped t-shirt and some ripped jeans i stole from dove with a random pair of shoes from the bottom of my closet.

i went into my bathroom and showered, brushed my teeth, did my hair, washed my face, and did everything else i need to do. once i was completely ready, it was about 5:30 i still had about 3 hours until school starts. i watched tv on netflix for about 2 hours. again im sure you know what i watched.

it was almost 8:00 when dove came into my room kinda ready. she was only dropping me off at school. "hey. you ready to go?" she asked me with a smile on her face. "i don't really have a choice" i joked back. "come on you're gonna be fine" she told me in a funny reassuring tone.

i followed her out of the house and into her car. as soon as she started driving i made sure i had everything i needed in my backpack.

"bye. i'll pick you up at 3:30." dove told me as i shut her car door. "bye dove see you later" i waved back. i walked into the large building. there were a lot of people. i still had 30 minutes until classes started so i went to the office. i got my schedule, my locker combo, and a lot of "important information" from
the principal, mrs. walker. she seemed nice enough.

although i've never been here and didn't know my way around at all i managed to find my locker. i put everything inside of it and closed it. i walked around confused and looked at my schedule when a boy with curly black hair came up to me.

"hey, you're new right? you look new. is that your schedule? let me see your schedule. i can walk you to class if you want. i can show you around"

he was talking so fast that i could barely understand what he was saying. he let out a breath and scratched the back of his neck. "sorry. i'm jack by the way."

"y/n" i told the boy my name

"nice name. are you new y/n" jack asked me still breathing pretty hard.

"is it that obvious" i asked a little embarrassed.

"well..." he paused

"so it's pretty obvious" i laughed and so did he.

"kinda." he replied with a smile

i handed him my schedule.

"ok first period starts in less than five minutes so we should get going" jack said to me.

our homeroom teacher, mr. romero just told us  what the school year is gonna be like, what we're gonna do in his class, and he gave us some tips.

after first period was over we only had about 6 minutes until second period. i walked out of class and looked for jack. he ran up to me and grabbed my arm then pulled me away still running.

we were standing in front of his locker which was about 3 lockers down from mine. in front of us were 5 kids i'm guessing in our grade. jack looked at them and then at me "oh yeah guys this is y/n"

"hi y/n i'm millie. you're really pretty by the way" one of the two girls spoke with a warm smile on her face. she had some sort of accent. british i think.

i smiled. "you too. thank you"

"caleb" one of the boys stuck his hand out for me to shake it.

"wyatt" another boy looked at me and smiled. i smiled back.

"hi i'm sadie" the other girl went in for a hug. i hugged her back. she seemed nice.

"finn" the last boy with hair kind of like jacks nodded his head as he said his name. we looked at each other for a while.

"wow the sexual tension in here..." jack interrupted. everyone looked at him and wyatt smacked his arm. "what? i'm just saying what we were all thinking"

"come on let's go second period is about to start. catch you guys later" jack waved at wyatt, millie, and caleb. finn and sadie were in our second period class which was math. math was probably my worst subject.

as we were walking jack asked me "so where did you go to school before here" i replied by saying "in chicago"

"chicago really? i've always wanted to go there" finn said.

"it's actually not that great. it's like new york but a dollar general version"

the rest of the day went by pretty quickly. i had at least one of jacks friends who i guess were now my friends in each class.

i met jack and wyatt at the front of the school at 3:19

"is she coming with us?" wyatt asked jack

"calm down i haven't even asked her yet" jack laughed. he turned to me. "so once a week, we all go to this diner around the block after school then we hang out for a while after, usually at one of our houses. you wanna come?"

i looked at him for a second. "sure, yeah. i just have to call my sister." i called dove. she answered on the third ring

"hey y/n. what's up? how was your first day?"

"it was great actually." i replied "i made a few new friends and actually that's why i called you. i was wondering if i could hang out for a while with them"

"oh sure. call me if you need a ride." i could almost see the smile on her face as i told her i had made friends

"i will thanks" i hung up the phone.

i walked back over to jack and wyatt . the others were already here as well. "she said yes" i smiled and he smiled back. we all walked out of the school and made our way to the diner.
