~Eight years later~
Pacific covered his ears. His parents were fighting, again. They were always fighting.
Pacific was a 7 year old SeaWing and his parents were SeaWings too. His dad was Carp, who worked for Queen Auklet as one of the palace messengers. His mom was Cobalt, who also worked as a messenger for the SeaWings. Cobalt was going to tell Carp that she was going to have his egg (Pacific) after Queen Auklet's coronation, but Carp had a crush on a RainWing named Blackberry. Cobalt didn't tell him that Pacific was his child until about a year ago when he finally asked who Pacific's father was. But by then, Carp was living with Blackberry on an island off of the RainWing kingdom's coast and they already had a dragonet together named Atlantic, who was 5 years old at the time, a year younger than Pacific. Carp explained to Blackberry what happened, and she forgave him. They set up a plan that Carp could live with Blackberry and Atlantic on the weekends and Cobalt and Pacific on the weekdays. Cobalt still couldn't fully forgive Carp though, so they constantly got into fights.
From what Pacific understood, Atlantic needed a dragonetsitter and Carp thought that it would be great idea for Cobalt to take care of her for a bit.
"I don't want to take care of your hybrid dirt!" Cobalt screeched.
"It's only for a week!"
"A week is a long time to take care of that disaster!"
"I'll take you out for a fly, just me and you, if you take care of her!" Carp pleaded.
There was a pause. And a sigh from Cobalt.
"Fine, but you better not expect me to do more favors for you any time soon!" Cobalt groaned. She still sounded annoyed, though.
Cobalt walked out of the room cursing. She realized Pacific was there and shut her mouth and went to her room, but Pacific could still hear her from there.
Pacific turned to go to his own room, but he felt his father's presence behind him and stopped.
"Your sister, Atlantic, will be staying for a week starting in two days. Make sure to make her feel welcome."
Pacific nodded his head, but to tell the truth, he was nervous about Atlantic staying. First, Cobalt could be mean sometimes, usually because she was annoyed with Carp, but she would be especially mean to Atlantic because she was Carp's other child, with Blackberry. Second, he had never even met Atlantic. Yes, she was Pacific's half sister, but meetings would be so awkward that Cobalt and Pacific avoided seeing her and Blackberry altogether.
Pacific walked towards the guest room. He mind as well make a good impression on Atlantic by getting the room ready for her. The door creaked as he opened it and dust flew around in his face. The guest room was rarely used. It will take all day just to dust this room! Pacific thought.
He decided to start with dusting. It was the most logical thing to do because anything else he tried to do to clean the room wouldn't actually clean the room because dust would cover it and make it dirty again.
Pacific dusted and dusted and dusted, but it was dinner time when the dust was finally cleared from the room. Dinner was awkward and silent like it always was after an especially big fight between Cobalt and Carp.
Pacific left dinner early. He went to his room and walked towards a big tank. The tank had aquatic plants like kelp and seaweed and rocks that formed little caves. Hidden in one of the caves was a small ridley turtle.
About 2 years ago, Cobalt had finally agreed for Pacific to get a pet. It was a turtle that Pacific named Sandy because he liked to bury himself in the sand.
Pacific looked at his pet. Sandy crawled out of his cave and tapped the glass wall of the tank with his flipper. Pacific gave him some food.
"Sometimes, Sandy, I feel like your my only friend. Mom and Dad are always fighting and now Atlantic's staying for a week and they don't even ask me what I think about that!" Pacific sighed.
"Yowl gubble snorf" Sandy agreed.
"I wonder if Atlantic is nice. I hope she likes it here, but something tells me that Mom isn't going to make that possible." He continued.
"Gowl!" Sandy said. Pacific could tell that Sandy was frustrated too.
Pacific felt himself slowly drifting off to sleep. He crawled into his bed and before he knew it, he was asleep.
The days leading up to Atlantic's stay went by quickly and soon it was the day Atlantic was supposed to be coming. Pacific was very nervous. He paced around the house. While he was pacing around the house he saw Carp packing his stuff for the trip and Cobalt trying to look nice for Atlantic and Blackberry, probably to show that she was the better mate to Carp. While he was walking away from Cobalt the floorboard squeaked, surprising Cobalt and making her drop the mirror that she was using. It shattered into a million pieces.
Cobalt glared at Pacific. "Can't you see I'm trying to make a good impression for the visit!" She said the visit like it was some disgusting poisonous slime on the tip of her tongue.
Pacific hung his head. Cobalt was normally nice to Pacific. Actually, he was the only person that she actually seemed to like and Cobalt thought Pacific could do no wrong. Pacific knew that she wanted nothing to do with Blackberry and Atlantic, except prove to them that she was a better mate for Carp. So, Atlantic staying with them and Carp going on a trip with Blackberry must have felt like a dagger was cutting through her.
Cobalt immediately realized that she was being too harsh. "I'm sorry my little piece of treasure," she kissed him on the head and stroked his cheek. "You know how I feel about this whole thing."
Pacific cleaned up the mess and Cobalt went back to putting on her makeup when there was knock at the door.
"Oh great, they're here."
"Mom, do you think Atlantic is nice?"
"Sure she is, treasure." Cobalt said, quickly trying to put in earrings as quickly as possible.
"Do you think she'll like me?"
"I'm sure she will" Cobalt said, kissing her son on the cheek and rushing off to answer the door.
Pacific followed her trying to catch up, but when they got there the door was already answered. Carp was talking to Blackberry and Atlantic.
When he noticed Cobalt and Pacific he turned towards them and said, "Pacific, meet your sister."
