"I feel as if life's on fast forward and I'm going in slow motion, life's leaving me behind." - unknown.
This quote describes my life to a T. Everyone around me is moving and making a life for themselves but me? I'm in the same place I started. My names Lennox, I'm 17 and this is my story. No it's not a sappy cliche life story where I have the perfect life and suddenly fall for the boy next door and live happily ever after. No. I've had a hard life. Most girls my age grow up having friends and girly sleepovers, spoilt rotten by their dads and loved by their stay at home moms. Me? My dad jumped ship the minute he found out my mom was pregnant. My mom met my dad on tour, she was a UFC fighter so she was travelling all over the country but when she found out she was pregnant she had to settle down in one place and quit fighting, well at least untill I was born.
I lived with a nanny until I was 14 in a 2 bedroom beachfront apartment in LA. My nanny taught me everything a mother should teach their child such as tying their laces, reading and writing. How to walk and speak. My nanny Pearl was the mother I needed, even if she doesn't live with me now I still go to her house for dinner everyday. She moved out when my real but ever so absent mother thought I was old enough to live by myself. The best thing Pearl ever taught me was to surf. When I realised I was in love with surfing i was 12, and Pearl bought me my very first board. Even to this day me and Pearl go for a surf with her son Jay. Jay is a year older than me and ultimatly my bestfriend. Well the only friend I have.
My mother only ever comes home from tour for 3 months of the year. Not a lot of time but whatever time we do have together is spent her teaching me how to fight and look after myself when she's not here. I am ever so greatful because when she leaves everytime I go to the Underground. Now the Underground is no joke, it is nothing to make light of. People die there. The Underground is where people go to fight (illegally) to earn some easy money. Well as easy as winning a fight can be. When I first found out about the Underground, I went to watch and to learn, to see how things work and what the rules are. There are no rules. To finish a fight the person either needs to be out cold, submit or be dead.
I had very little experince, sure I went to boxing club and had lessons with my mom but nothing that compared to the Underground, so at the ripe old age of 15 I had my first fight in the Underground and by some miricle I won. It was crazy, my adrenaline was pumping and I was on a whole new high without drugs. For a moment I was no longer the kid people pitied becasue she had no family, I was no longer the kid who was scum. I was THE kid who had just won her first underground fight. When I left the ring to collect my winnings (I had won $2500 by the way) and went to the changing room I noticed and older guy watching me with interest and start to follow me. So of course I started to freak out and got ready to surprise attack him. Well lets just say he landed me on my ass without hardly moving.
"What's your name kid?" I could tell he was southern from just that sentance. But he held himself with a sense of power and authority that I felt compelled to answer.
"Lennox." The attitude was leaking out at this point. I mean I had just won my first fight and he put me down.
"Hmm.. that was a lucky win out there. Where did you learn those UFC move? They look perfected." He was studying me like he was planning to use me for something.
"How did you know they were UFC moves? And that was no lucky win old man." i seethed.
He just laughed and shrugged my tone off as if I wasn't killing him in my head.
"Old man huh? I'm barely 20. So Lennox I have a propersition for you. You train with me and I'll teach you everything I know combined with everything you know you could make it big. Oh and the names Ace." He says it like he's talking about the weather.
"You're on." I said stright away with such determination.
And that people is how I got to where I am today.
