Silent Dinners and Loud Music

When dinner was ready, my dad finally came down from his study. As per usual, we ate our meals in almost complete silence.

My dad was a stockbroker and he had always worked from home. Before my mother died, two months ago, he was a normal person, and even when he was really busy, he always did his best to spend some time with me and mom. Now, he stayed in his study all day and hasn't got out of the house once since mom's funeral.

Sometimes I felt like screaming at him to start acting like a normal person again and not leave me alone, but I knew I couldn't do that. The only thing I could do was to be patient with him and hope that, with time, he would recover and become his old self again.

After dinner, dad closed himself in the study again. That was starting to become my least favorite room in the whole house.

Dragging my feet, I climbed the wooden stairs that led to my bedroom. At this time of the day, the house seemed even more empty than usual. It was like mom's presence filled it and, now that she was gone, this wasn't a home anymore, it was just the house where we lived in. It's just like us, I thought, empty as hell.

I lied on my bed and started to read the new book I had recently bought. It looked really interesting and the main male character was super dreamy...sigh. I was on the second chapter when, suddenly, my lovely next door neighbor (note the sarcasm) decided to turn up the volume of the music he was listening to in his bedroom. That crap didn't even deserve to be called music, that was machine-made noise with a really loud bass.

Silently cursing Ethan, I opened my bedroom window and tried to yell at him to turn the volume down, but the motherfucker ignored me and continued looking at his computer. It was in times like these that I seriously hated the fact that our bedrooms were right next to each other.

I decided to solve this problem and teach him a thing or two about respect, so I marched over to his front door.

After ringing his doorbell like crazy for a few seconds, the door opened and, suddenly, a shirtless Ethan appeared in front of me. Holy moly, keep your eyes on his face, Sky!

I stood there for a few seconds until finally he said "Good evening, grumpy neighbor. I assume you didn't come here to stare at me, so... What do you want?",  with the cockiest smile ever. Damn him!

"I came here 'cause..." I forgot what to say! I could feel my cheeks heating up and that jerk had totally noticed it. Trying to look as confident as humanly possible in a time like this, I said " I came here because  you must be deaf and don't know how to keep that thing you call music at a decent volume!"

"Oh, silly me, I had no idea I was bothering you! I guess when you don't have any kind of social life, you're not used to hearing this type of music", he said, pouting. Ugh, he was really starting to annoy the hell out of me.

Pointing my finger at his bare chest, I gave him what I consider to be my most intimidating look and said " Listen up, dog face, either you turn down the music or I will go to your dirty bedroom and I will turn it down myself!"

He looked down at my finger and started laughing while I glared at him.

"I know you want to come up to my room and do naughty things with me, but you don't have to make up excuses for it, Sky."

"Bu—" he closed the door before I even got a chance to protest. Cocky bastard.

I stomped my way back to my bedroom, muttering a string of cuss words. I lied back in my bed, but noticed with a smirk that the music wasn't as loud as before. Sky-1, Ethan -0.
