το τέλος του ήλιου

The end of the sun

It was as it sounded: dangerous - mythical - fucking hot as hell (but Mark had helpfully announced the issue to the Goddess, who in turn cooled to a temperature Yuta was comfortable with, and so he stuck as close to her as be could without breathing her oxygen).

(Does she breathe? Probably not. Stop thinking, Yuta, it's unhealthy).

He looked up at her.

(So, she doesn't breathe. Nice to know)

Mark stood beside the elegant Being with a glint of familiarity in his eyes. After she had evacuated them from the small town, Dami landed them in a wide, endless corridor. Lining the walls were glimmering paper lanterns and beneath their feet was a plush carpet that Mark could only describe as being woven from the threads of stars and polished by the moon itself.

Above them was what seemed to be glass shielding them from cumulonimbus and stratus clouds threatening to fall upon them, but even then they looked incredibly soft. Mark had actually asked the goddess if he was allowed to touch them the last time he was there - she had said no.

Yuta was covered within the the cold surrounding the woman as he said, "So this mullach place is where the goddess and that-" he stopped himself from cursing and Mark was thankful. "-devil are hiding? Like, they live there?"

"Yes," Dami spoke. Her baton was no longer within her grasp, and her hands were swaying by her sides, allowing her to reach out and pull at a string of rain and cast it out of her sights. "They have resided there for centuries. I believe your next question will inquire how they have remained hidden whilst on Earth, and so I must tell you that whilst they are physically on your planet, their essence is not in this solar system. This allows them to reside in the mullach and manifest in forms familiar to the human eye, although their true being does not enter this realm."

Yuta was still confused - and rightfully so - and so Mark carefully leaned in and added: "Their bodies are here, their 'essence' isn't. Kind of like, if their body was killed, they wouldn't be dead. They'd just go back to their..." he vaguely motioned in the air with one hand. "realm to heal, and then come back."

Yuta nodded, but he was still confused.

His eyes dropped down to the crystal cup secure in the Canadian's right hand, the corners of his lips fluttering into a smile upon seeing the small, cloth bear enjoying the water within as though it were a jacuzzi.

He felt himself heat up incredibly fast, and he realised his steps down the corridor weren't enough to keep up with the strides of the Goddess. His legs worked quickly to catch up, and his skin cooled instantly.

"Dami," Mark spoke, words echoing a hushed whisper within the walls. He looked up at the sun Goddess with clouded eyes. "What am I meant to do? How am I meant to fight such an ancient being?"

"Do you have the beads?"

Mark nodded. He pulled down his collar. "Should I give them to you?"

"Aren't those beads meant to protect him?" Yuta asked the question that had been hammering around in his mind.

Because surely if the beads had hidden Mark, they were protective in some sort of way? Shouldn't Lucien's magic have dissipated before them?

The clouds above them rumbled, and the Goddess quietened them with a simple glance. They seemed to shy away, parting to reveal a sunlight that sparkled on the flooring, and wait a minute. Where are they?
