CHAPTER 1

The boy was in a vulnerable position. He couldn't see. He felt a traitorous tear slip down his cheek. He pulled the covers over his head even though the blonde haired boy was in the room. He felt something grab his hand over the sheet. He moved his hand and curled into a ball.

Keefe couldn't hear anything and it sucked. No one else besides Tam, and Terik were disabled. He couldn't hear his voice, his own voice. He couldn't tell his jokes, he couldn't laugh. Keefe looked at the window. The raindrops were sliding down the glass, He couldn't hear them pattering against the glass. He could see them alright. In fact, if he looked over a little bit he could find Tam. Was he crying? Keefe held his hand. Tam quickly moved. He could tell he was nervous around him. Why? He was tired, Keefe went back to his cot. The sight of the dancing butterflies had made him fall asleep.

Keefe opened his eyes. Silence. He'd have to get used to that. He sat there for a considerable time. Nothing. This was his favorite time of day because of the bird songs. Keefe felt something touch his shoulder. It was Sophie. She looked distraught. He looked over at Tam and he was bleeding. He had tried to get some water and tripped. Keefe tried his best to help but Sophie just ushered him to bed.

Would it always be like this? Where he'd need someone to do everything for him? He had just wanted some water! Tam felt blood across his face. Tam tried to feel around him. He heard someone mumble something. "It's okay Keefe, c'mon."Sophie said. Keefe mumbled again. He heard footsteps. He guessed it was Sophie. "Are you okay tam?" Sophie asked him. "Yeah yeah I'm fine." Tam said. Sophie helped him up. He felt a warm towel on his forehead. She laid him down on a cot. "When will you stop treating us like babies?" Tam said. She didn't say anything.

Keefe sat up from his cot. Protesting Sophie treating him like a child. She walked over to him. He clenched his fist to show he was upset. Sophie put her hand on his shoulder. Keefe unclenched his fist. He crossed his arms and sat back on the cot.

Tam heard Sophie sigh. Tam unsteadily got up. He felt around and grabbed Elwin's cane. Tam remembered it was mainly for decoration, but it came in handy. Tam felt the room with the cane. He slowly walked across the room. He heard footsteps. Someone put their hand on his shoulder. "It's me, Sophie." She said. Tam held out his hand. She grabbed it. He then tickled her. "Tam! Stop it!" She said while giggling. He kept on hearing her laughing. Keefe got up and tickled her too. "Fine! Fine! I promise!" She said while cracking up.

Sophie led the boys back to the cot. She was just worried about them. She couldn't help but feel that it was her fault. As if on que Keefe held her hand. Sophie smiled at him. "I'm going to get us some food." Sophie said. She got up and grabbed some mallowmelt. She handed a piece to Keefe and Tam. She nibbled on a corner of the chocolate goodness. Keefe squeezed her hand, looking at her worriedly. She smiled at him again. She watched Tam struggle to take a bite. She helped him. "Sophie! You promised!" He said. "Fine." She said. She took another bite. Keefe smiled. She got up. "I have to get back to class." She said while pointing to her school satchel. Keefe nodded and waved goodbye. "Bye Sophie." Tam said. She waved goodbye.
