Many have wonder if there was someone to able handle someone like tendou satori as a child, only finding out that there was and that was his childhood friend hakuchó Maemi who many mistakes the boy as a girl even the name was quite girly.
Both may seem completely opposite but they do get along and also they have same interests of reading Mangas and watching animes.
Since tendou enjoys to watch the looks of others players when he was able blocked them one thing he was able in way have common thing with Maemi was that Maemi who doesn't show it actually finds it little amusing at the looks when the guys who have thought he was a she.
Anyway time how they met.
As a child Maemi was bullied for looking like a girl since he is boy, and it doesn't help much that he has his own problems at home since was neglected by his parents.
Maemi is walking till hears some boys and fearing it might be his bullies so he tries to find a place to hide till hides in the bush only to see some boys calling another boy, which has red hair with bowl cut hairstyle, a monster.
Part of maemi doesn't want to go up against those boys but same time he dont want to see another boy also get bullied.
Maemi decied to be brave for once and goes over.
"Hey leave him alone!" Maemi says once there while three boys and red head boy.
"Hey don't get near, he a monster cause he looks like one!" One the boys says.
"Yeah and he always guessing right on what you thinking so that makes him a monster." Another boy says.
"If he able guess correctly then you all are probably doing same thing everyday day and makes you all boring." Maemi says while points at them.
They look annoy and angry at Maemi as the red hair boy looks at Maemi confuse but curious.
"Shup up, a dumb girl like you won't get anything." The main bully says.
"I'm not a girl! I'm a boy!" Maemi yells.
Let's say after that now the bullies callimg the red hair boy monster still and Maemi girly boy and then they left.
Maemi tries not cry as hear the red haired boy get near.
"Even though you try help me but didn't work much but thanks for trying defend me." He looks down at Maemi.
"Sorry I made it worse for you....I can't stand it that you were called a monster when you're not." Maemi says to him as slightly looks at him.
"Im kinda used to it, beside they really angry since I keep blocking them at volleyball, which i kinda find their expression amusing." Red hair boy says.
"...I'm hakuchó Maemi" Maemi says.
"Oh I already know who you're are, I walks past your classes sometimes, also are you really a boy? If you are then you make a really cute girl despite being a boy." He says then holds out his hand "oh also I'm tendo satori."
Maemi looks at him as then grabs his hand to shake as says "nice to meet you tendou-kun."
And that how they met.
No it's not over yet
Since then both boys have start to talk each other since they don't have other friends, tendou talks about things he likes and listens what Maemi likes.
After knowing each other for like a weeks or four weeks, tendou have noticed that Maemi doesn't have bento box to eat lunch since seen that Maemi have to sometimes ask for bits of food from other kids who are least decent enough for to be kind and gives some food, sometimes wear same clothes that are quite dirty.
Tendou thinks then decided to invite Maemi to sleepover to find out more what going with his only friend who kinda grew attached.
Once tendou and Maemi have went to tendou house for the sleepover and since tendou been telling his mom about he worried about maemi, his mother agree to invite him over to see if its true about Maemi being neglected.
Tendou mother looks surprised at first thinking that Maemi was a girl only being told that Maemi is a boy just with girl looks but then tries not show worry once seeing Maemi somewhat dirty clothes and looks like havent taken a bath in a while and also haven't been fed well.
While tendou mother thinking what to do as both tendo and Maemi have fun and eating dinner till later on it's was bath time where both decided to take bath together.
(By the way I try not feel awkward typing this part even though it's just innocent scene but bit nakedness)
"Oh you're really a boy." Tendou says looking at maemi lower part seeing there what all boys have.
Maemi blush hard as looks bit annoyed while says "of course I'm a boy! And why staring?"
"Cause I thought you were lying mostly you really have girly look~." Tendou say quite teasingly.
Maemi rolls his eyes as taking a bath with tendou till both finish getting themselves dry with towels till tendo wears pajamas and Maemi wear some pajamas that doesn't fit tendou but fits him well.
Now with tendou sleeping on bed and Maemi sleeping inside a sleeping bad on the floor as they softly talk
"Hey? How come you sometimes wear dirty clothes?" Tendou ask.
"Its cause I don't know how to wash my clothes and my parents are really busy." Maemi says
"Even though they busy at least your mom should have your clothes clean and also how come you don't have bento box prepared for lunch?" Tendou ask once again.
"My parents are busy." Maemi once again says.
"Wow are they really busy like they work somewhere far or something and also do they know about you're getting bullied by other kids?" Tendou asking again.
"Actually they at home but they just told me never bother them since they busy as for that my dad just says to man up and its my fault for being a sissy boy." Maemi admits.
Tendo looks down at Maemi as says "you know, I think your parents are neglecting you and also your dad is awful for calling you that."
"Huh?" Maemi says confuse.
"Yeah cause they not taking care of you and ignoring you when you need help and your dad just say means things." Tendou says.
Maemi stays quite then sniffles some tears while says "i know....and its my fault that I cause problems for my parents for existing."
Tendou stays quite till goes and drags Maemi to his bed.
"That dumb thing to say about its your fault which is not beside I'm glad that you exist since you're my only friend." Tendou says as hugs Maemi who quietly cried and hugs back.
Timeskip again
After that night things changed mostly tendou mother reported Maemi parents for neglecting Maemi and was going to stay with his grandparents who actually takes care of him and also tendou and Maemi still going be friends till once enter middle school maemi have went to different middle school.
Both found ways to keep in touch till both started their high school together at shiratorizawa where tendou show Maemi his new friends from volleyball club.
Maemi can't help but think to see tendou haven't change much on personality.
