Chapter Five

The crackling of fire came to Nick’s attention. He then immediately awoke to see everything upside down. He was still in the car. He tried to move, but realized he was still buckled. He tried to unbuckle himself but the seat belt was jammed. He looked around to see if there was anything he could use to cut himself loose. He noticed a shard of glass lying on the floor in front of him. He reached his hand out and grabbed the piece of glass and started to saw his way through the leather of the strap. Finally it snapped and Nick fell to the roof of the car. He found an open window and crawled through it. Nick sat on his hands and knees for a few seconds, trying to catch his breath. He then stood up, using the car as a support. When he stood up strait he looked around. What he saw made a surge to panic go through his body; everything was destroyed, there was cars flipped over, signs and lights scattered all over the streets, and small fires were lit everywhere he looked. Nick took a step forward the ground crunching underneath his feet; he then took another and stopped. He saw a dark shadow of a man standing in the middle of the destruction. The man was wearing some sort of suit, maybe armor. The suit had spikes on both of the shoulders, the arms some sort of padding on them, and on the back of the suit was a weapon of some sort, probably a sword. The man then lifted something and put it on his head.

“Hey, you,” Yelled Nick, “Do you know what happened here?”

The man stood there and said nothing.

“Hey I asked you a question!”

The man still stood there saying nothing.

Nick knelt to the ground and grabbed a rock. He got up to his feet and chucked the rock as hard as he could at the man. The rock struck the man in the left shoulder. On contact the suit made a loud clanging sound, like a stick had just struck a hollow medal pole. The man lifted his head and turned to face his left shoulder.

“I finally got your attention!” Nick said in a rude voice.

The man then turned around completely and faced Nick. The eyes of the man were glowing red out of the mask. Nick then noticed that the man was wearing a suit of armor; the armor was black with a dark purple mix. The spikes on the shoulders were pure white and looked like they were just cleaned. The man’s helmet was the same color as the rest of the armor, save for the two white lines that crossed in the middle of the helmet.

The man stepped down from the car that he was standing on.

“You already had my attention before you through the rock at me,” Said the man, “And what happened here was that I destroyed everything.”

“Ha, yeah, funny joke,” Said Nick sarcastically, “Now tell me what really happened here.”

“Like I said before, I destroyed everything.”

“Okay look, I’m not in the mood for joking; so just tell me what happened and don’t lie about it.”

            “I’m not lying boy.”

“Who are you?”

“I’m the voice you’ve been hearing.”

“I mean what’s your name.”

“I am the Knight of Shadows, the apprentice of The Dark-“

“Yeah, whatever; I’m just thinking you’re a nerd in his own fantasy land. But yet, you made a really nice suit, you’ve got to teach me how to do that.”
